None of this answered my question. Why do you, or anyone care? Was there ever an argument? It was a question, is it allowed or not. Official stance stated multiple times by SE is: ALL THIRD PARTY TOOLS VIOLATE THE ELUA/TOS
A debate is pointless.
We could argue about how it could cause problems...
but SE has address that too.
They do not make the program so they do not control what is in it.
They can not ensure that it is currently and will remain safe in the future.
Additionally they can not go through every piece of software out there to determine if it is safe, not safe, if it hacks, if it gives an unfair advantage.
So the answer is... ALL THIRD PARTY TOOLS VIOLATE THE ELUA/TOS.
The punishment... is on a scale and based off internal policy that does not need to be disclosed and can change as needed to address new and changing issues facing the business.
So how should you handle it? Well SE also addressed that too.... They said use at your own risk, both to computer/privacy and to potential ban.
I do not know what can be made any more clear about this. If you want to know, read the producer letter ummm 57? where this was addressed like 3 years ago.
