I mean, really. Years and years of raiders progging savages and ultimates with parses on screen and audible triggers, do you think it's only just now that people had an epiphany and filed a report about it? It's just that before GMs would flat out tell you the evidence has to be in game, or they'd say they'd open an investigation and nothing would happen.
And? Things can change. Player activities have resulted in changes to how they're handling ToS violations. It's about the same as a city deciding to install traffic cams on an intersection that has constant issues with people exceeding the speedlimit and running the red lights so that they can just have the cam snap pictures of the offenders then mail them their citations. Or the change from suggesting people wear face masks in public during COVID and then later making masks mandatory because people refused to do it because they found it inconvenient and started being super spreaders.

And the thing I was originally pointing out is that its only this English board blowing up over ToS and third party software addons. You don't see this spam of threads on the JP board, the French board, or the German board.

Kinda sucks for those that SE suspended to send that message, though.
Huh... Can't say I knew this particular detail but on the other hand... What else could they have done to NOT leave that point of ToS a dead paragraph? If they didn't include technical solution to confirm or deny your usage of plugins (as they don't instal spyware on your PC) and don't take outside proofs... They'd be effectively blinded with no ability to enforce rheir rules... And that's not a spot you want to be.

I never said that they can't change. My point has been that it has changed.

But to your second point, 5 chan and 4 chan have been blowing up - though more in support of witch hunting and whatnot. And they've previously used edited screenshots and so on to try to get unpopular figures (as seen by their community) banned. It's also been a very popular discussion on reddit today. Can't really say about how other language communities feel though, other than 5 chan... well, being 5 chan.

Yeah, what kicked this off was basically the start of a culture war. "You got our guy banned? We'll get your guy banned!" Though at this point it seems to be trying to get any streamer they can. Regardless of one's view of addons, I wouldn't exactly call this a healthy state of the community right now...

Yes, this is basically the position SE has been in in the game up to this point. That's why streamers and tubers have freely displayed their parse windows and/or other mods for so many years.

They are still blind to non-content creators that use all the mods/addons/etc they like and don't talk about it where SE can see.

Hello there, just thought I'd correct you a bit here.
They're actually cracking down on streamers only right now, as in, people who are intentionally choosing to stream the usage of add-ons/modifications directly attached to their Final FantasyXIV game clients.
Now, as for the average Final FanatsyXIV players who dont need attention to breathe, none of the rest of you can be detected. Understand, I am not saying to use chat bubbles. I am saying if you use chat bubbles there is no actual way for anyone to know other than you that you're using them. No one is seeing you do it, therefore, no one can report you for it. The people being banned (reminder! These people are called "streamers"!) are being banned because a viewer sent the report after watching them use modifications clearly directly onto their Final FantasyXIV game clients. Ok? The only way anyone will know is if you streamed it. This is why people streaming the usage of modifications to their Final FantasyXIV game clients are being banned. Because they're streaming it and proving to everyone they can find that they are in fact doing it. If you simply play the game in your room quietly, you cannot get in trouble. As there is no way to know that you are doing it. You need to show someone (likely, strangers!) that you're doing it to get reported to a GM (reported, meaning that a player told on you because they saw you doing it!). So currently, the only way to get in trouble for using something like chat bubbles would be if you for some reason decided to go out of your way and stream yourself using them right there directly attached to your Final FantasyXIV game client. Hope that clears some things up for you!

That's the state we're in yeah and I feel that it's how it should have been from the getgo. Personally I am on fence with things like world first race openly using ACT automated call outs during their "winning" run. I get that it was something they had to set up manually but ultimately it ends up being an advantage that at least from my POV sped up the process as you had essentially 9th player acting as a coach which meant all the focus of the group went into optimizing their rotation and movement.

They know exactly why, what they want is to turn this game into World of Warcraft where addons are allowed to run rampant so they can effectively cheat their way through content because they are averse to putting actual effort into the games they play. This is a concerted effort to normalize these kinds of addons to the point the game will innevitably revolve around them like WoW has become, and it needs to be pushed back with absolute extreme force.

I mean Arthas got suspended for having ACT running during a stream badmouthing a blm and his fans went to bother the blm.

No it's not. Don't talk about it or show it and you're good. What are they gonna do, hack into your computer and look at your files? Until they can actually be assed to look at the most popular addons and whitelist those they like you'll just have to hush hush, like always
