That's my point though – you can't "access them for free" for trying-on purposes if they come from quests or raids. You can only see those items if you've run the raid and it's in your inventory or temporarily in your text log. Being able to preview pieces without owning them would be amazing, and I'd be less inclined to hold onto dungeon pieces I like but am not using currently just so I can try them on.

There isn't the same need for things you can browse from in-game shops, although it would still be nice to not have to travel to something like seven different cities, the Wolves' Den and the Gold Saucer to try on everything.

Yeah, I'd figure. I also wouldn't mind it that much the way how it is now, if I played on PC and could use tools (assuming addons/plugins?) that technically aren't allowed but noone really cares about being used, I suppose.

However, on console there's literally no real solution for this that I'm aware of and it's a bummer. The implementation of dreamfitting paired with me recently putting glam together and running in the mentioned disappointments of running dungeons for glam that turned out whack just really hit home how annoying the current functionality - or rather lack of it - is to me. So, I came here to look if that topic was already mentioned and just put out my two cents.

I don't know - as mentioned - the ability to easily and quickly link (or to look at something via other ways) that you don't personally own ingame is something that I considered so much of a basic functionality in other games, that I never even gave it a second thought being there.

The goal with the dream fitting was to make sure people are happy with spending even more money on a look. It just seems a waste of time to put something like that out there, especially when we have a lot of options already available for checking out what things will look like. Eorzea Collection and BadWolfy (YT) come to mind.

Having tried it out, I feel like it might be a tall order to expect a full catalog of gear to be loaded into a space you need to access in complete isolation with load times.

The argument to just use EC or YouTube previews could apply to the paid items as well. Both are equally unhelpful for confirming that a piece will work on my character as part of a specific glamour concept.

And I might not be spending money for a dungeon piece, but I am potentially spending quite a lot of time to acquire it. To have it not even work for what I want at the end of all the effort is several layers of disappointing.

Also if "loading the full catalogue of gear" would be an obstacle, then they could break it up in some way. But it's also possible that loading it in isolation might be more about getting the specific interface working with your character and automatically previewing the full set on your character while not overwriting the standard Try On saved outfit.

They've made the interface now, which was surely the bulk of the work. Adding more gear to the list could be very minimal effort for a big player benefit. For me it would be 90% of the appeal of a glamour log without needing to store the actual items, which apparently was their sticking point. I'd be able to browse dungeon sets like I now can browse the marketboard, and discover pieces that I want to spend time working towards.

If they expanded it to dungeon drops or even crafted lv1 items it would help those who love to mix and match things. Or answer the age old question of will this work with a certain skirt that everyone knows is famous for just turning into some panties and stockings if a top is too long. Or for those who want to see how badly an item makes their tail, ears, or horns clip through. Of course it would be a lot better if the try on feature would show you what it looked like with in game lighting.

Whatever it is, it's more complicated than you think it is.

Yes, they've made the interface. Adding all the gear and having it all in the appropriate sets is no minor feat.

but whatever, you don't want to even try to understand what's going on. Enjoy your time that would be better spent just putting together the looks as the rest of us have all this time. Good day.

Crafted items aren't so important, because you can try them on at the marketboard already. And the "try on" option still works and carries over into the Dreamfitting mode, so you can save the skirt to that interface at the marketboard and then go try other things on with it.

Sure, for crafted stuff you can just use the crafting log or the marketboard. Yet why not have it all in one place? What's easier and less time consuming running around looking at the various stores or logs or just going to an inn room hopping onto a bed and using said function? While also not wanting to have to open a different menu to see how things dye together? Or for those times two things are white but not the same shade so you need to fuss around in trying to figure out which other shade of white do you need to make said item(s) to be so your outfit sparkles.

Certainly, if they can do everything in one place then that would be fantastic, although if they can't then I would regard the crafted gear as lowest priority since the marketboard is our current biggest "lots of outfits in one place" resource. If people have crafters levelled then they potentially don't even need to leave the inn room to check it.

From memory, my hierarchy of things to include in Dreamfitting (if they can't do everything) would be:
    - alliance raid and endgame dungeons
    - quest rewards
    - GC gear from the Hunt Billmaster (since they won't talk to you if you're not in that GC)
    - levelling dungeon gear
    - specialty shops (endgame hubs, PVP, Gold Saucer, GC quartermaster)
    - crafted/marketboard

That said, there's definitely still an advantage to the Dreamfitting menu over the marketboard now that I think on it, because it does the neat thing with gathering all the pieces and showing the whole set together.

    Which skirt? Confused.
