Ok. Now I have a grasp of this. There is only two real winners in this situation and that is console players and people with accessibility(colorblind, legally blind, etc) problems. This has kinda forced the Dev team to step up their tools and how stuff is displayed and presented so that those who don't have access to mods(or shouldn't need mods to begin with).

I think at most this will be the end of progress streaming/transparency and this version of the race in general. This is kinda of a weird end to it all. The from the harassment of TPS, to the reaction JP players about Neverlands win, to this. With no anti-cheat to officially police this its gonna be a community lead witch hunt which benefits no one. All its going to do is push the top raiders to go silent.

I get about 109 fps at 4k on average, sometimes higher. Now, I also have an obscenely expensive graphics card (in part because I also do machine learning work, and the chonky GPU helps with TensorFlow like you wouldn't believe), so it's definitely "costs more than a PS5". But it certainly does better than "barely" 60fps.

That aside, Valkyrie said "4K or 60fps", which I suspect is absolutely within the capabilities of the PS5 version; you should be able to run it in 4K (and give up some FPS) or it at 60 fps (and give up some graphical fidelity). Most PS5 games let you make that tradeoff, between "Performance" or "Fidelity" modes.

I aim to make my posts engaging and entertaining, even when you might not agree with me. And failing that, I'll just be very, VERY wordy.

It's the framework that the tools people are up in arms about are built on, also has been the subject of discussion because of the toxicity it generates when used incorrectly and to shame players.
You cannot get rid of cactbot, or any of these other trigger and callout addons without also banning ACT.

Streamers should know best that showing third party tools for hundreds or more people will lead to this. People have a strong stance on certain things, like mods, but then why won't the developers provide these same tools, if they wish people to stop using them? I am not saying those callouts and ACT parsing thing, but if QoL things, like chat bubbles, simpler and improved UI, ping/current song visiblity... Let's not forget mutilated ears on Hrothgars. If SE can't be bothered to improve the experience for players, someone else will take the risk and make it for themselves. And the end result? You may get banned, which is fair because ToS.

I'm gonna get killed for this by the gcbtw and other hardcore Yoshi-P stans, but I don't believe most of the statements that comes from devs, community managers or Yoshi-P himself. Years playing Asian mmorpgs has taught me that acknowleding something is not equal to action taken. I do believe their statement on third party tools from today, but I don't believe the "we will improve the UI" one at all. People should take this with a grain of salt, and stay skeptical. If valid criticism will get you shot, eventually devs can become too prideful and cause their own downfall, Blizzard style.

This is essentially the take I'm going with this. They left Pandora's Box open for too long. The only reasons that mods are so deeply ingrained in the underbelly of XIV is because of the development team's tacit acceptance of them by not banning people at the start, and also not developing enough QoL features or completely backwards design decisions in the first place. All this is going to do is embolden more witch-hunts on people for using or trying to fix these things the development team just don't have the time or the ability to work on.

We have asked for more information coming from the user interface. To this day, we STILL cannot determine what is magic damage, and what is physical damage. To this day, almost no one understands what primary or substats actually do, or what stat tiers are without third party tools or resources.(people still think we use stat weights or that Piety and Tenacity are AMAZING stats, for god's sake.) To this day, we lack proper support for mouseover actions without clipping. We lack proper support for user customization options for a more accessible gameplay experience that extends across the entire game. We lack basic options or feedback to learn or grow as players in-game. There's a REASON the Balance and Teamcraft exists! They are filling in huge gaps where Square Enix has completely failed in transparency for how their game functions. Why do you think so many XIV streamers are sponsored by EXITLAG? Because you have significant problems DOUBLE WEAVING, a critical gameplay element, properly on the NA East Coast with our substandard internet infrastructure and the sheer distance of the packet journey ever since they put all the servers in California, and that goes doubly so for areas such as South America or the Middle East. And that's without getting into the complete insanity that is the way XIV handles animation locks and how the server actually receives inputs from the client. It's right here!

What about the Viera/Hrothgar controversies? About how they are almost limited races? Gonna delete all those disability or lifestyle accessibility options people developed for the express purpose of making the game more playable(read: playable, NOT "easier")?

What about the fact that many people CAN'T SEE in P3?

I have zero problems with ToS enforcement. I have had nothing but good interactions with GMs. It's their game, do whatever you want. Most of it is done very well. Lot of it is done very haphazardly.

But the fact that they let Feast get to the state it was with the rampant wintrading and cheating, ruining the legitimacy and fostering resentment of the Top 100 to the general playerbase for YEARS.(I'm on Primal, it was very bad.) The fact that crafting/gathering bots have totally annihilated the marketplaces of all NA/EU servers for YEARS. The destruction of Eureka and the Diadem, and the fact that Saint of the Firmament is about as respected as a paid-Legend title (something they ALSO fail to punish) due to the botting. Why didn't you enforce the ToS on those people, who are straight up ruining multiple gameplay systems that affect entire communities tangibly? But no, we gotta get the TOS police on the ACT users. I have very little faith in them. And I'm not saying that because I'm bitter, I'm saying it because there's precedent. Look at the response to Ungarmax. Look at Fellowships and the friend list/black list. Look at Living Dead and Blood Weapon, and how long we screamed for that. Look at what information we, as players, are allowed to know versus what we probably SHOULD know. Look at DUTY RECORDER. That's the precedent Square Enix has for developing in-game solutions to community problems.

But now you have idiots who don't understand a lick about software OR actually doing any amount of progression on an Ultimate encounter throwing death threats to Ultimate raiders, nevermind basic nuance, and now we are having yet another discussion.

I'll believe it when I see it, probably years from now. Most of the raid/super invested community is already underground in their "hacking the game on their private server" discords anyway.

If they want to stamp out modifications, they need to provide a good enough service themselves that using them is unwarranted, sadly i doubt this will happen, and players will continue utilizing these tools until they do.
I'd like to address just housing here. Learning glitches is what makes decorating the creative activity it is in FFXIV, and is embraced by the housing community and its Discords which ban any use of plugins or third party tools in their forums and in housing tours. It is absolutely not necessary to use plugins to achieve this level of design. But it takes work which is why top designers are in demand. I encourage anyone to give it a try as the housing community will be happy to guide you in your endeavors.

Apparently, now some western streamers have gotten suspensions after the announcement...though I suspect it's less about an actual tightening of their stance and more just petty people wanting to test if SE would actually follow through with their claims.

Ultimately, all it's likely to accomplish is causing the people who rely on questionable add-ons to stop streaming their attempts and won't actually discourage their usage in the long run.

    You are delusional.

The way the default game handles information is terrible.

Furthermore, there are a ton of non-combat plugins that exist as well. Good to see you don't care about crafters, gatherers, rper's, casuals, and those who need accessibility accommodations.

Their stance makes player culture so much more tolerable in this game. Playing WoW all but required add-ons so people could track how bad you were in their eyes and keep you out of whatever content was out. Having read these forums for a bit, I can guarantee if they were any softer on it half of you'd be making the game misery for the other half.
