My LS has run Moogle with random arrays of jobs. Just today we did Moogle with a WAR tank, 2 WHMs, 3 BRDs, a MNK and a DRG. We've done it with just one BRD, no BRD, and so on... And we win.
Jobs are actually remarkably well-balanced.

That may be true however people will still want to flock to whatever is the easiest and stack those classes and if a ranged set up works better then people will want to stack that and a lot of people will have the mindset they don't want certain jobs because it makes the fight harder. So in the end its not balanced. SE seems to have a hard time balancing fights and jobs and they been that way since FFXI.
In SE case if you make a boss that punishes melee by taking damage from having to be near the boss there also need to be a mechanic that punishes the ranged as well or people will learn toward stacking ranged because they can get away with taking a lot less damage and require less healing.
