Then how will people know that I spammed my "Give me my commendations for existing as a healer" macro hundreds of times?
Wearing the crown is optional so there is no point in removing it.

Don't remove the mentor crown. I know there are toxic people in Novice Network but the vast majority of mentors I've encountered were normal mentors. I think the real issue is that you don't need to have done x content to be a mentor. You need to have a certain personality. You need to enjoy helping others and you need to be nice and friendly when someone gets things wrong over and over. Currently, the only thing that even sort of attempts this is the commendation requirement. Unfortunately, players don't use commendations correctly. They just give commendations to tanks or healers, regardless of whether they explained any mechanics or not. There should be a way to tag people who explain mechanics or help people with something after they party up.Like the title says, I think SE should remove the mentor crown.
This is really a band-aid fix to a bigger problem, which is that the requirements for achieving the mentor status are really easy and have little to do with your experience across a wide array of content.
Nevertheless, I think it would be a positive and simple change. Mentors receive a good amount of harassment in this game, which I don't think is ever warranted. Mentor or not, if someone is being rude or just acting clownish in general, two wrongs don't make a right, and its simple enough to blacklist them and move on.
That being said, I have never experienced any kind of harassment from being a mentor. I simply just don't wear the crown. I enjoyed the exp boost when it was relevant for me, and I get a kick out of reading NN chat; that's pretty much my whole mentor experience.
You don't need a crown beside your name to help new players. Furthermore, the crown has such a bad reputation in this game(even to new players) that they aren't going to ask mentors for help anyways.
And finally, removing the crown would eliminate the portion of mentors who only got the status to have the icon next to their name.
*Yes, I did write this in response to another post I saw about mentor harassment*
There is no correct use for commendations.
SE offers players no guidance on how commendations should be used beyond "Player commendation is a system whereby you can commend a party member who left a positive impression upon you in the course of duty."
Positive impression can come from a lot of different things (and what one player finds offensive could be very funny to another).
It doesn't help that the game "bribes" players into using their commendations via the challenge log entry. A lot of times players are just slapping their commendations on a random party member still left in the dungeon before they leave for the sake of getting that extra bit of XP and gil.
I have mained healer for YEARS, and I still don't have 3000 commendations (About 2800).

The rewards are fine. Do not remove.
People are consistently overreaching about this.
It's about getting people to sign up for mentor roulette to speed up queue times for sprouts. There HAS to be an incentive, or nobody would do it.
Meanwhile I've been playing for 2 years and I got 3400 comms. People can give out comms for literally any reason. Could be because you have a nice glam, or because you got a funny name, or because you got a chill attitude.
Well, I know that, of course. I hardly if ever interact with people so that might also be the reason. I know it's not just for being a healer.
Granted, I also never farmed guildhests for commendations.

I've never understood the Mentor memes and the enormous amount of threads posted here complaining about them or recommending their removal. I guess cause I play on a JP server, even though I don't speak Japanese, the english speaking population are only ever polite and genuine, the NN is perfectly fine, and I only ever see chat in their go like Sprout: "asks a question?" Mentor: "Answers question" So you can imagine when I see all the toxicity regarding the NN and Mentors I'm just confused.
It's definitely cultural, Japanese in general are more respectful and don't insult people for no apparent reason. Hence why I didn't jump to OCE when they opened, I'm Australian and I can only imagine the amount of toxicity that's going to be rampant on those servers lmao we have no filter on us
Therefore, it's not SE's job to police the bad aspects of our culture, if the system works as intended in Japan, we just have to adjust (become better people) or just put up with it.
Remove the mentor crown, replace it with Burger King logo
In NA the NN is used by unsocialized weirdos as a platform with a captive audience. They'll go on and on about weird topics for hours at a time, often steering into creepy or outright ToS-violating topics. One of the most frequently asked questions is "How do I leave the Novice Network?" because sprouts get fed up with their chat being spammed about weird and/or disgusting things. The rest of the time its just totally inane babble that should be confined to linkshells or FC chat, but most of the 'active' mentors tend to have neither of those. I've seen one guy talk to himself for over an hour straight with paragraph length posts about a topic no one else was even engaging him about.I've never understood the Mentor memes and the enormous amount of threads posted here complaining about them or recommending their removal.
