After the story made such a fuss of us going off in separate ways...we didn't even make a single patch without the lot of them. Why even make a big deal of the parting if we cannot take 5 steps before we need round them all up again?

This patch takes place a significant amount of time after that. We haven't seen these people for a while. If I had one complaint with the patch, it would be that they didn't make that clearer. That information came to us from interviews.

I’m sorry, but there is no universe where I can consider the present state of G’raha Tia family. His behavior just makes me feel uncomfortable. I don’t even care if a guy flirts with me, but G’raha Tia looks like a school girl. If a male character is going to take so much interest in my character I would rather it be someone who has masculine beauty/attractiveness like Aymeric or Hien, whose appearances at least match their voice acting. Even then these mannerisms are just strange regardless of appearance or gender.Nope, not just you. I've played since ARR and they went from acquaintances, to coworkers, to friends, to family.
It makes no sense for me that we wouldn't go to our adopted family for help and guidance. I like that we call on them for a change. And the role quests have laid the foundation to expand our adopted family but I think part of things is in the Trust name. We're more likely to choose to go into certain peril with people we trust and have a history with than someone we just met.
I would not call on G’raha Tia for any adventure if I had the choice. He isn’t the character I used to like in Shadowbringers, he’s been reduced to a worse joke than Sylvanas Windrunner.

So the story can not exist without the scions needing to be present for a single patch?
Its the curse of the (semi)silent protagonist. While I'd love a Choose Your Adventure BioWare dialogue wheel style for a .x patch or two to establish some new characters. The scions are basically our mouthpiece and story guide.
It'd be cool if we could design a character(retainer style) to be our Navi/Mash/Cortana to be our MSQ guide, but until we get to a point like that, as much as I would like us just to set out into the unknown by ourselves, we kinda need at least one(or more than one) Scion just to push the story along.

Its hard to imagine now but back in HW we somehow managed to make it through almost a whole expansion without the full roster of scions. I get that we need someone to speak for us, yes, but I think its silly that the moment we were faced with a potential roadblock we direly needed to globetrot and assemble a light party of scions. Its the curse of the (semi)silent protagonist. IMO worse characters twins.. they have identical personality except a few minor differences. One of them more than enough, making twins contributes nothing except meaningless dialogue writing (also please no more child like characters).
I remember a few characters from previous FF games
-Auron (a man with regrets trying to watch over you but not telling you about it or personal past) I believe this is what they tried with CID but it is not worked out as they expected.
-Seifer (troubled childhood, misunderstand by people, looking for a purpose and guidance ending up as villain IMO good written character) I think this type of writing missed opportunity for Zenos Galvus.
-Irvine Kinneas (he thinks he is cool but when burden of responsibility shows up he is shaking decent writing and character development)
Compared to those characters FFXIV characters not memorable.. Perhaps its MMORPG factor making it hard because long story regarding characters personal story might be boring for some players..

This. Even SB pushed us out of our comfort zone by having us spend a majority of it with Alisaie and Lyse, two characters we hardly got to know at all in addition to a mostly new cast of characters from Othard. Alphinaud was hardly there for most of it.Its hard to imagine now but back in HW we somehow managed to make it through almost a whole expansion without the full roster of scions. I agree totally. As time goes on the WoL is starting to feel like Vaan from Final Fantasy XII. While we are the Main Character, the story isn't our story. The moment we state that we are gonna set out on our own, we instantly start furthering someone else agenda. Its hard to imagine now but back in HW we somehow managed to make it through almost a whole expansion without the full roster of scions. The way i see it is that we will probably still call on them but a patch is not the place to just sweep the board and replace with a new cast. Its going to take time and personally i think there are some they could bring in to supplement. I honestly doubt characters like G'Raha, Krile or Estinien are going to go anywhere. But i can fully see that this questline is about retiring Ystola, Thancred and Urianger for a while. I fully suspect the twins to return to focus in 6.2 or later depending on how the MSQ progresses.
But i do think that when we come to the new expansion we will see a divergence from using the scions as such and characters like Jullus, Erenville or Sicard and perhaps Krile will finally get some development.
Either way i think the roster will expand in time and hopefully we'll get some with divergent backgrounds and perspectives.
