After HW, Alphinaud had basically gone through his character arc and served no purpose as other brainiacs started showing up, so he became the butt of every "joke" instead. Ugh...

I was happy to see a number of good Y'shtola moments since she felt kinda sidelined in 6.0.
But I mostly wanted them gone since this was supposed to be the start of a new journey, and having them around would just feel like a continuation of the same journey.
FFXI expansions were usually standalone and felt like a new adventure, I guess I was looking for something more like that.

I'm kind of in the middle on this.
I know people are tired of the same characters being involved in everything, but it would be completely ridiculous to not seek their help when their expertise is relevant and you've known them and relied on each other for years. If the PC ends up in something involving magical mysteries, Y'shtola should be their first point of contact, if it's dragons Estinien, etc. They also did a good job this time with picking characters we've been with less overall and lately, and not having Alphinaud who has had the most screen time by far show up at all. It was also nice to have a smaller cast total instead of having to talk to the same eight people about absolutely every development.
However, I also think they need to introduce new characters for us to meet and work with ASAP. I know this takes more work, especially for the whole duty support function, but it would be a lot more balanced and believable overall if there was a mix of old and new friends. It's going to get real dumb real fast if every single patch is just "which three of the Scions with combat capabilities should I revisit for this task?" They've shown they can do this without making them trusts in places like Holminster Switch and Ktisis Hyperboreia, so let's see Varshahn, Unukalhai, and Y'shtola as our party in 6.2 (as an example), and then let's actually meet some new characters to travel with in 6.3 and beyond, before the next expansion.
dont touch my boi graha

We do get new companion, Vrtra and he already has his own character and story development especially in this patch, but i doubt he will be in trust, probably will be supporting character like Krile, as to why we keep meeting up or joining up with scion member after endwalker, well they are the most reliable and trusted person around, if we get to have new friend, it has to be a drastic situation, lets hope next expansion do that, in my opinion, this patch is the pointer on that direction, and this game is very detailed about relationship, just look at the new alliance raid, we spent quite a time traveling around to make sure whether the twelve we met is primal or not, they do say they are not, but graha and others are not so stupid to believe it just like that and actually do investigation for that, little detail like this is what justify me to actually care about the story and character development of the NPC in this game

Well , we’re in a new story arc now now that the tale of Hydaelyn and Zodiark is over and finished with. We’re back to being an adventurer in 6.1+ as we always were and will be setting out into the unknown like what Emet-Selch was mentioning about.

Back when Y'shtola was blinded, I expected it to take a heavy toll on her life and health as the story progressed. I've since then accepted that the devs have likely regretted this decision since none of her abilities have been impaired in any meaningful way and I've found myself frequently forgetting about her blindness completely. Her magic eyesight is a Chekhov's Gun that has yet to fire for over 3 expansions now, and 6.1 has her sleeping in a library over a mountain of books. While I can understand the perspective of a new player who may have started recently being quite attached to Scions, you must understand that these characters have been here for a *decade.* As someone who has started in ARR, I am begging for a new cast because the development of the Scions happens at too slow of a pace nor does anything of interest happen to them.
This. I like some of the scions in moderation, but the longer they stick around, the more they start to feel like unkillable mascots. Absence makes the heart grow fonder, which is why I don't want the game to be afraid to shelve them and mix up the dynamic between our companions regularly. HW gave us a Crestfallen Alphinaud, a vengeful bloodthirsty savage in Estinien, and a terrorist in Ysayle, threw us all into the hinterlands and told us to play nice. And despite their backgrounds seeming incompatible, by the end of their trip they grow to understand one another and become inseparable. I want to be able to experience that again with newcomers and maybe even existing minor characters. Fordola is practically begging to receive the Estinien treatment, promote her. They cannot carry us into season 2, they only represent stagnation at this point. We cannot have immortal characters that stay on this long like WoW does, I'm sorry but it is for the best that they retire from the storyline. I do not have the confidence in the writers to do anything more with the likes of characters like G'raha Tia besides more meme or college living moments.

Nope, not just you. I've played since ARR and they went from acquaintances, to coworkers, to friends, to family.
It makes no sense for me that we wouldn't go to our adopted family for help and guidance. I like that we call on them for a change. And the role quests have laid the foundation to expand our adopted family but I think part of things is in the Trust name. We're more likely to choose to go into certain peril with people we trust and have a history with than someone we just met.
