New hrothgar hairstyles are really bad.

it's not even true. the ears are attached to the head. there was a visual bug some time ago that made hrothgar bald, and their ears were attached to the head and not the hair, so this excuse is a complete lie

Yes I'm aware, but that would be a display bug on the players end, no? The hair wouldn't literally disappear and everyone saw bald Hrothgar walking around, so as far as the game client is concerned the hair is still very much there and so the ears would be as well?

Please note that I'm not saying that makes it okay or fine, it looks bad, just trying to make sense of what he's saying the reason is.

This is just what I keep thinking of. It's not impossible and modders have clearly done it. It's not like Hrothgar have a super unique face style unlike Charr from GW2.

We know Hrothgar are a project Yoshida had in mind since HSW. He wanted a bestial race for a while, he made Au Ra look more bestial in the concept art than they ended up looking, he experimented with the Lupines and from it all got Hrothgars\Ronso. Yet he doesn't play one to our knowledge, and it feels like the problems they've had since got swept under the rug. Now, I don't want to blame it all on Yoshida, that isn't what I'm trying to say. What I am trying to say is that whosever job this was, even if it was a collective, needs to understand that this doesn't look right and it shows. And that to many people, for whatever reason (personal attachments, identity, social minority, even lore people who liked Bozja, fans of FF10 or someone like Yoshida himself who wanted a Bestial race of whatever kind), this is a disappointment.

I understand there are limitations. I understand they are understaffed\overworked. Maybe both. But for the past 3 years I've seen a lot of people say "It's fine, we don't need to implement another gender, we need to make what's already in the game feel good because who knows how long it will take to implement that gender". And the devs do know that they have a lot of good faith in the community. People can be patient, people can wait. It's not a modder's job to fix this, it's Square's job. But we waited 3-ish years for this. And why? For fears that thing clip, when everything in the game clips regardless? It's not even that bad, look at the images of mods going around. Allocate resources to it like you have for Male Viera and like you will for the races you want to improve.

Because I'm sorry, but Hrothgar players already feel like they don't matter because they're a very tiny minority of the playerbase as it is. The only reason we even have any attention at the moment is because Viera players and their supporters think we have the same problems they do, when in reality Hrothgars have it worse. And it is worse feeling like a Hrothgar can't have nice things when all the other races do.

I think they'll hear the disappointment loud and clear. They should have stuck with the beast race look and simply made additional Hrothgar custom hairs and perhaps improved on the ability to customise without a fantasia. Making them look more human with human styles seems to have been a bad decision. The question is why has it's taken so long to get what we're getting.

As a Viera I'm happy with what we got and hope we see a lot more but I'd be upset if they took away our ears to provide us more hairstyles.

Agreed. We shouldn't have to sacrifice our ears in order to get different hairstyles when we know that the ears are attached to the head more than they are attached to the hair. I'd rather keep the base 8 hairstyles that modders have shown that can work on all 4 faces. And just be able to swap between them whilst Squeen figures out how to make good hair for hrothgar. I'd rather wait than get something half-assed.

Remember when they said Hrothgars would be among the most customizable races? Well, that isn't exactly true given our limitations on the character creation menu. But one of the few things we can change are our ears, limited as that may also be. But lol nah we're just getting rid of that one nugget too.

The exact words were "They will have a Robust customization." However, I feel it was a mistranslation and probably literally meant that they're a large race.

Those are NPC's hairstyles, it's different. You already got a phletora of hairstyles, while us, no.

I wouldn't say we got hairs... They ported over the hairstyles that are popular on races that work with the shape of their head. Whilst receiving none of the hairstyles that actually WORK with the shape of the head bar one. And even then we were shafted because on other races with ears. In particular Miqo'te:



The ears poke through. Despite the fact that Miqo'te ears are actually WORSE than hrothgar ears when it comes to hairstyles. They're just a flat texture and have the 'top' of the ear added to them with each hairstyle. When it comes to making hairstyle for races, would that not be more complex than allowing a bit of clipping? I'd rather Squeen take a bit more time to find a workaround to this considering what has taken them 3+ years has taken modders months to do.

It's why the Base Miqo'te hairstyles that are Miqo'te unique have the tinted tips to them. because really all Miqo'te hairstyles have this extra bit that serves as the outside of the ear.

Hairs that in my opinion could work for Hrothgar are :

Wind Caller, Rainmaker, Gyr Abanian Plait, Discount Hien Ponytail that's common for all races, Pulse.

These can all work with the shape of Hrothgar's Head. But instead they choose the hairstyles that they ported over to Male Viera, the race with a similar headshape to the other characters. OF COURSE it's gonna look garbage on Hrothgar. It's a different shape.
