You should probably go into it expecting the mog gardens from XI. A little place with some gather spots, and furrows to plant things.

I'm looking forward to minion based farmville with perhaps a house I can decorate with all my outside placement items.
I don't think I'm asking for much.
you're just proving me right.I disagree. That's like the FF13 fan minority being upset because the majority of consumers who expected a Final Fantasy open world experience and instead we got a hallway simulator. The consumers told Square what they wanted, but kept pushing for example Lightening. Housing can be done in an MMO its one of the few things FF11 has over FF14. ESO's Buy to Play model is an example where they can add in Buy to Play features that would net Square tons of money but giving consumers something they would spend money on. Yet, Square is too busy on focusing on NFTs something their existing consumers as a majority has no interest in.
Allow us to buy instanced themed properties, whether it's in the mountains or in certain nations. If people only focus on certain properties that means they are designing something no one wants like FFXIV 1.0.
If Square today decided to make a racing game and no one buys it, it is not the consumers fault for rejecting something no one wanted. It is the developers who chose to develop for themselves and not try to understand the consumer market. FFXIV 1.0 is a great example of a game made by and for what the developers wanted and ARR is an example of a game that was made for its core consumer base.
They were disappointed because they expected something that the game is not.
hence Yoshi-P's suggestion. Take your hype down a notch.
Don't go too wild with your imagination etc etc etc.
Or has everyone forgotten No Man's Sky?

Years after. Respect for the dev in that regard.
I wanted to use CP77, but the opinion on that is way too split.
My point is, overhyping is not good. Either by the devs or the players.
Hence, tempering *snicker* expectations advice by Yoshi-P

And that's great and all. But if Yoshi wants to temper expectations they should actually tell us what the heck these things are. It's the absolute vagueness that has led to speculation and hype that they will never reach. And that is their own fault.

This ^
Giving us the actual details will help the hype die down so people won't be angry bc they had expectations that were never fully addressed
The lack of transparency on many things the XIV dev team does or is planning to do feels-- I'll mention it again, "out of touch"
Because it's not common knowledge among many players it seems on what the island sanctuaries actually will be
We can only hope people ask the right questions about island sanctuaries and not questions that just waste time- like about the lore (which people can read or eventually read in the art books & other tiny content of writing that is eventually released) lore is not as important when it comes to content because those questions usually get answers along the way. So, to *me* it seems like a waste of everyones time when during the liveletters and questions someone asks something about lore unless it's productive towards most of the playerbase.
I remember after ShB, the stream with Yoshi-P someone actually thought asking a question like: "is the sandwich the exarch gives you the exarchs favorite type and should we save it or eat it?" And the look on Yoshi-P's face was priceless. To waste this mans time with such a moronic question.
It would be nice if people took the time to ask questions seriously- like anything to do with game development that will affect 80-90% of the playerbase such as: How will they update character creator? Do they look for suggestions from the playerbase on how to move forward with adding cosmetics? Does Yoshi-P take western forums into consideration when trying to help with the direction of content or just the JP forums? How do they plan to solve the limited housing and will apartments ever get an expansion? When lottery doesn't work, what will be the next idea? What are future plans for limited job quests? Will future endgame content be more than just ultimates, BiS gearing and savage raids? Why create island sanctuaries when the housing is limited and people have asked for instanced housing and neighborhoods are pointless. So take the time to fix housing, not create an island sanctuary that will dash many folks dreams of finally having an instanced house (just my opinion)
A really good controversial one I'd love to see asked and answered is would the design team ever consider taking inspiration from player mods (like hairstyles- bc the amount of curly hairstyles and long hairstyles outweighs what exists currently for players.)
Anyways, I didn't mean to go on but your valid point made me pave more specific questions I'd like more updates on by the dev team due to the lack of transparency.
If I'm recalling one of the translated live letters correctly, Yoshi said that after announcing island sanctuaries the interest and the hope for housing/etc was so great that they decided to rework it and add new things. He couldn't say much at the time because they didn't have everything ironed out. Let's see what they say in tomorrow's live letter.

Looking at the promo art, the two main features are obviously going to be:
1) Providing players without houses an opportunity to, at least, garden. If not also have outdoor decorations (and at that point, why not?).
2) Have a sort of Chao garden for minions. Because Lord of Verminion was a failure and having something mechanically simpler but personally more interactive might put them to better use.
A third likely use, based on the horse in that image, is having a sort of mount stable to make mounts more personable (because, as it stands, they are just empty vessels). Given that stabling is an extension of the Chocobo companion system, I think there is a safe chance that mounts (or some mounts) will be expanded into companions as well.
Which, if that all turns out to be true, that mounts are companions, then I think this will end up serving as a sort of hub for a "Beastmaster" role, where you can have options for animals companions that you do battle with. Which I think is a far better implementation of a BST job fantasy than limiting the job to a single job and weapon. Also, if this be the case, there is a good chance Companions might have their availability expanded beyond open world, maybe be usable in dungeons and normal trials (but likely not in Raids due to the sheer body count, as fun as that might sounds; and likely not in extreme/savage trials because of balancing).

This is wonderful, but let's not get too hopeful yetIf I'm recalling one of the translated live letters correctly, Yoshi said that after announcing island sanctuaries the interest and the hope for housing/etc was so great that they decided to rework it and add new things.
