I suspect the reason for so little detail is that they are still making this up as they go along and are probably terrified of a North American player base that is already quite peeved at the somewhat shoddy treatment of the housing problem.

I think there is so little detail because it's just not exciting. Like most of the little mini-games that people ignore it will get a mention in the patch notes closer to 6.2
At this point though, it looks to be about as exciting to the developers as the spear-fishing game.

At one point, Yoshi-P was quoted as saying the biggest thing he wanted to talk about to the players was "Farming" which I believe is the Island Sanctuaries. It also wasn't the players but the Devs that brought Animal Crossing into the discussion saying not to expect it to be as "amazingly fleshed out as Animal Crossing" (paraphrasing)
All in all, while I want to keep my expectations low, the Devs have been more silent on this particular subject than almost any other. Which is in itself suspicious.
The island isn't likely going to be housing related so lower your expectations severely. So yeah, when they announced we were going to get our own personal instanced Island I was excited. I decided to come back in Feburary because I figured the launch was going to have issues and of course my own personal island is not there. Now people are upset about the lottery system, but I only care about my personal island.
When are we getting that? I don't want to compete with the housing system as is.
It feels like the XIV dev team is just really out of touch.
If it's coming in 6.2 (6.25?), then by now they know EXACTLY what it is. And there's a version of it well over halfway to completion sitting on a server somewhere in their offices.
Given its posted release schedule and the fact that nothing similar has been announced, I personally believe it's just going to be Eureka. Again. Nothing could disappoint me more.
I disagree. That's like the FF13 fan minority being upset because the majority of consumers who expected a Final Fantasy open world experience and instead we got a hallway simulator. The consumers told Square what they wanted, but kept pushing for example Lightening. Housing can be done in an MMO its one of the few things FF11 has over FF14. ESO's Buy to Play model is an example where they can add in Buy to Play features that would net Square tons of money but giving consumers something they would spend money on. Yet, Square is too busy on focusing on NFTs something their existing consumers as a majority has no interest in.
Allow us to buy instanced themed properties, whether it's in the mountains or in certain nations. If people only focus on certain properties that means they are designing something no one wants like FFXIV 1.0.
If Square today decided to make a racing game and no one buys it, it is not the consumers fault for rejecting something no one wanted. It is the developers who chose to develop for themselves and not try to understand the consumer market. FFXIV 1.0 is a great example of a game made by and for what the developers wanted and ARR is an example of a game that was made for its core consumer base.
