Jokes aside the game is full of fictional races lol.
Do you really identify with Lalafells because they have the same skin color as you?

Race has never been boiled down to just skin color ever if that's what people think they need to read some actual history.
Thancred is the only human Scion around, everyone else is a fictional race.
There also isn't a lack of darker skinned color people in the game, hyperfixating on the Scions doesn't change that ( Louisoix is one of the most influental ones too even if he's gone but he's dark-skinned ).

Edit: I wouldn't be against Gaius becoming a Scion tho.
I actually want him to be a part of the story moving forward, especially with the restoration of Garlemald.

And on the Gaius part, I would also want him a part of the Scions for the same reason, too. He was such an awesome character with that freaking gunblade of his! I wanna see him and Estinien team up again and pal around with the WoL, Graha and Alisaie. Because let's face it, those latter two will probably definitely be a part of the WoL adventures always, lol!

I'd also love to see Fordola join us as well. After everything she's went through in the blasphemy side Quest, I think she deserves a second chance at life and becoming an adventurer and Scion I think would he the best thing for her. Plus, I can see her also doing this not only for herself to start anew, but also for Arenvald, too.

Those are western values you're trying to insert in a Japanese game MADE by Japanese devs INSIDE a Japanese community.
Inserting a black character or with certain sexualities to represent a group of people that lack confidence and are in dire need of representation in every single corner IS NOT something the Japanese care or believe in.

Are these western values? Yes. Is it a Japanese game? Yes. But is I'm made for a global audience? Sure is. So imo that isn't out of line at all. The devs have already shown they care about that sort of thing with making things like dresses unisex

I don't want to see this game drifting away to appeal to Europe and USA gaming communities' values more than the Japanese values. Every other MMO is already doing that and it's more than enough. People should understand and be fine if X number of characters aren't the same as your colorskin. Aren't the same as your hairstyle. If you're not fine with that then you have a serious confidence issue that instead of solving it you're trying to demand of others sympathy and representation of you.
And no, unisex dresses are only a thing because of profit.

Maybe you have figured out why but that's because the devs live in a Japanese society where they barely get to interact with other skin-colors people. Especially if they live away from where tourists are usually seen. Instead of asking the devs to change, why not accept their culture? If someone has the right to demand a X colorskin character in a game developed in the otherside of the world. Then a japanese person has the right to demand a japanese character or anything to their fancies in western games. It also means everyone get the right to demand a character or more up to whatever their mind fancies without someone saying No.
You see how horrible that is? No? Wait until everyone moves on to the next level when everyone start doing that. Instead of accepting others and their work and culture as they're, we're trying to change it to whatever we fancies and not what them or others fancies.

First as someone who wants change in the world and thinks that we need to change:
To change something you dont blast it into everyones face and force it on them, you talk, explain, reach out. In the end knowledge, patience and education will the result in change. Inserting something for the sake of it or even force it, will not help and probably even hurt your goal. You cant change racism through force, if you do this you will walk the same path as the "rassist" do and i promise you they have way more expierence in this then you.

Second as a "sucker for storytelling"
If your character is just there so you can say look "i have x, y, z person in my story" then thats plain bad writing and a "sin" as writer. A good chracter that make sense is what i want not a "checkbox character".

Wanting to see more folks that look like you is never an issue. It's an innocent and frankly understandable want. Japan has a history when it comes to dark skin anyways that isn't exactly nice (to be tame). Also who was asking for sympathy here? That point was an off one imo.

I think if you're asking for a character to be inserted into the mix that is POC or whatever, you've missed out on a lot of the story that's already in there. You also have your own opportunity in character creation.

Well said. It's cultural colonisation at its best. If you disagree well then you are (insert petty insult here). And this ofc only works this way, both ways is unacceptable

I'm not an expert on Japanese culture, but it's safe to say that none of you are either. So when you are making sweeping generalizations on what is Japanese culture and what is not, you sound like an idiot. And cultural colonization is quite the interesting topic to throw as an argument when you consider how religious values have affected the depictions and treatment of sexuality and sexual minorities in media and on a societal level, even in cultures where said religions are in clear minority or non-existent. So I'd be careful when it comes to throwing around the term cultural colonization in this argument, when we live in a global world where certain factions, superpowers and systems have a very broad influence globally and the power to dictate cultural norms that don't spawn organically from inside the culture itself.

This, of course, works both ways..
