Then you realize it really hasn't changed at all from lvl 4 to lvl 90.
One filler spell (lvl 1) and one dot (lvl 4). Both simply get upgraded via traits as you level but the button stays the same.
Veteran healers don't care if we need to heal, but right now we don't. We want interesting things to do during the downtime other than a 30s dot and a single filler spell that hasn't changed from lvl 4 to lvl 90.
Dead DPS do no DPS. Raised DPS do 25/50% lower DPS. Do the mechanics and don't stand in bad stuff.
Other games expect basic competence, FFXIV is pleasantly surprised by it. Other games have toxic elitism. FFXIV has toxic casualism.[/LIST]
HAAH WAAWFor the last 5 years checks on balance for dungeons have been done by the same team members. The tank is a casual player, the DPS is Yoshida himself as a serious player, the other DPS is project manager M-chan, the healer is a player with experience as far as the Extreme Primal fights, but everyone ended up becoming more skilled than before. Recently the job distribution has been changed up, the healer became too good so a replacement was requested.
You cannot make this up. I am so sorry that I committed the cardinal sin of maining a not-DPS.
Yeah, that line just made me lose all faith in ever seeing improvements to healers across the board - and especially to WHM, who has desperately needed it for literal years. Their solution to WHM not being viable being to nerf all other healers down to their level has been, and will continue to be, absolute bull****.
Honestly, a lot of that pre-LL interview stuff just left a sour taste in my mouth. The only bright spots being the claimed difficulty of the Myths raids and Endsinger EX.
God bless Lucy Pyre.Oh, look, a fun, easy guide on what being a healer means in FFXIV these days!
I feel weirdly exposed.

Ngl, that "healer became too good so a replacement was requested."-sentence made my jaw drop in awe.
Like, What
What do they mean by "too good"? Like... letting HP drop to 15% HP before healing them up efficiently and effectively, which stresses the other 3 players with 'health bar anxiety'??? Or what???
I shudder to think that they're looking for a 'Sylphie' as their potential replacement.

God lord that just explain everything, they are using casual ppl to test combat content? No wonder why DRK has been destroyed I even bet is the job that casual tank is using, and the healer replacement for being to good just bcs extremes just leave me speechless.

I really want to know what is “too good” here. And how did it lead to a replacement?! I’m sitting here trying to figure this out in my brain but it makes zero sense.
“Healer became too good”
“Replacement requested”
Does not compute.
Do they…seriously test battle content with not good players? I guess a bunch of things would start to make sense if that was the case, but I have to question the legitimacy of testing content with players that struggle. On one hand, I get it. But on the other, you shouldn’t test and design and balance around outliers. You should do it around the average…
But what do I know.

The comfirmation that white knights that protected the devs wanted to hear. They wont listen to any healers changes and stick to their course CAUSE they see healers as the dumb and idiot player, example they kicked their healer from the team cause he does extremes and he knows other spells exist other then vure 1. Yep healers sure are respected and valued lol
To be honest, it's important for casual players to be able to complete content. I have no issue with there being testing considerations for players of all skill levels, because that's responsible quality assurance. What's troubling is the fact that instead of allocating multiple teams and distributions, it's all on one team again. This is similar to the complaint about job design, how it's being overseen by a surprisingly small and seemingly isolated group, with a lot of focus on DPS, and less on supports. The scope is, once again, too narrow.
Total guesswork here, but the fact that the tank player is the casual one is PROBABLY the explanation for why Bloodwhetting is so overwhelmingly insane in dungeons. If he knew what he was doing and used it to it's full effect during testing, there's no way something that broken would make it into launch. It is astonishing they don't have a hardcore/midcore/casual option for each party member for at least balancing reasons, never mind actual engagement with the content.
That said, extremes is the breaking point though? Really? Not at least 3rd-Floor savage? Isn't it a problem that you have to replace your QA healer as soon as they may start to realize just how mind-numbing everything is?
If your developer can get better at healing, chances are, the player can get better at it too. Why replace them? (see: unsubscribe for our version of "replace") Why do you have so little faith in your own playerbase? I didn't realize they were as jaded as we were.

You've heard it from the man himself. Even devs can't handle playing healer for a prolonged period of time.
