Regional pauses have been by data center. I don't think they can individually turn peoples Demo timers on and off, it seems to be a server setting, not a player one. And I'm not sure how the FC ones would work.

Make it permanent. It's annoying that you have to resub to a game to keep a house. I already paid my in-game money for a house, so why should I lose it? It's a horrendous crime!

With instanced housing for 1 the server will need to remember the house of every single person in this game and not every account, every character. It will need to remember the entire inventory of the yard and the house.

Secondly if I afk infront of my house that server is going to need to remember my instanced housing when Im standing right infront of it. Heck it will need to remember all the random neighbors that happened to load in during the moment I decided to enter the instanced ward.

Instanced housing is a lot more server heavy. We already complain about the lack of wards and lack of character inventory spaces and house inventory limit. We will need a lot more server space to realize your instanced housing.

Not to even mention it ruins the neighborhood vibe. I love running around my ward and seeing people doing their stuff. And the occasion lala neighbor running past my house to the marketboard.
Most of us don't need to imagine what instanced housing is like. We have direct experience with it in other games. It doesn't sound like you do and that you're just making assumptions.

Remember that data not in use can be compressed for efficient storage, then uncompressed when it is actually needed. A compressed list of items with location coordinates is going to take up a tiny fraction of the space server space compared to items always kept loaded whether needed or not.

If a notorious spendthrift of a game company like Gamigo is still storing all my RIFT Dimensions even after I had quit playing the game for 4 years and wasn't paying a dime to them, it's safe to say that instanced housing is not more server heavy. If instanced housing was server heavy like you claim, all my Dimensions would have been wiped due to my inactivity. My Dimensions aren't FC room size, either. Some of them are the size of New Gridania. Almost all of them have more items placed than we're allowed to place in a FFXIV mansion.

Do you still persist in thinking instanced housing is more server heavy when I get all of that in a game that uses instanced housing but I'm limited to a single house subject to demolition in a game that doesn't?

Instanced housing means every player gets the opportunity to get the instance they want regardless of how many other players have chosen that instance. Instanced housing means no need for demolition.

As for neighborhoods - what neighborhoods? I almost never see a neighbor despite how much time I spend outside of my house gardening and crafting. I'd much rather have instanced housing where I could build an isolated home in a countryside to my liking than a house in a deserted ward.

I'm not saying SE needs to destroy the existing wards for those who actually like them but it would be nice if they stopped pouring money into more wards and added a better instanced housing system that will ensure every player gets the housing location of their choice instead of being forced to fight over the scraps others have abandoned.

Why are we stuck with this mess of a system when other games are successfully using instanced housing?

I'm thinking they should permanently remove the requirement for people to enter their house.

Demolition should only happen if people do not have an active subscription for a period of 90 days.

People who are unable to log in for any irl situation will not be penalised.
People who want to take breaks between patches will not be penalised, as long as they aren't gone for more than a few months.

That seems fair enough to flush out plots owned by people who are no longer players, without putting pressure on people who just play infrequently.

Why not instead get rid of the Demo timer as such?

    I'd like that idea more.

We should cancel housing demolition permanently.

I really don't see the point of this thread.
It will always divided on this topic
Existing house owners will against demolish timer and new players will want it because this is their slightest chance of getting a plot

I have a house and I think the timer is needed. Doesn't stop me from playing other games and taking small breaks when needed.

People have this weird "all or nothing" obsession when playing games.

I think they should never turn off the demolish timer no matter what happens. Like OT said there is always some shit goin on in this world and all they do is taking it as excuse for the bad housing system. If you really want to prevent your plot from demolition because you are to lazy to visit in once every 30 days or took some time of they should add an additional option in the subscription window. Maybe something like 5€ or 10€ per Server, per Plot, as long you pay it dosnt matter what you do and you don't have to login into the game at all. As soon you stop paying the clock starts ticking and when times up your plot and everything on it is gone.

Never, buying a house in FFXIV is when they get you. Now you have to maintain a sub and log in even when there is no content in the game.

But really it should be removed, they said a long time ago this would never happen and its in the game. It's another great example of Yoshi P lying to the player base. Is what they need to do is take houses away from players that have been grandfathered into owning multiple houses, create instance housing, add more housing wards ect. These are things that should have happened years ago but the developers always have some sort of excuse as to why they can't. Maybe once an expansion we get some sort of housing update, but its never enough because SE has let players grandfather older systems. On Gilgamesh there are multiple wards that are owned by a single player and that is the sort of things that should never have been allowed to begin with. Even WoW had instance housing at one point with the Garrisons and that game is way older than FFXIV.

But again they will never remove the timer because SE knows its a great way to force people to pay money. It's like getting locked into a bad lease.

I wouldn't consider this an all or nothing obsession. I would simply call it a bad system that could be fixed in other ways than locking players into keeping a sub and logging into the game to keep a house. The demolition timer is like putting a band aid on a gaping wound.
