So I am old enough to remember when there was thousands of Final Fantasy Fan sites. When heart attack man and his Quest team took over there was a war between the old Final Fantasy Staff and Heart Attack Man's quest team. As you all might not know Heart Attack Man created Final Fantasy Tactics and Vagrant Story. Well FFT was good Vagrant Story and FF12 was not.

His universe would come and go and he would claim to take back his universe and even made a Kickstarter in which he collected money and never made a game.

Regardless of how you feel about Vaan as looking like a femboy which the character looked even more femme before his redesign FFXII/FF12 so divided fans even the hardcore fans who loved FF12 couldnt help but notice all the fan sites dying out or shrinking.

Heart Attack Man was the first to try and insert his views and story and try to hijack the Final Fantasy Series but he was not the last.

Zipperman famous for FF7 helped create FF13 and FF15 (Which was supposed to be a side story to FF13)

People famously rejected Zipperman's hallway simulator Final Fantasy XIII and someone worse then even Jar Jar Binks, Lightening. Because customers did not take to lightening Zipperman and Square thought it would be a good idea to create more characters with tons of zippers as he is famous for and to try to shove Lightening down our throats and threaten us if we did not buy there would be no more Final Fantasy.

One thing Zipperman and Heart Attack Man had in common other then almost destroying the Series they famously tried to redefine what Final Fantasy was and blamed no one liking their games on people not understanding Japanese RPGs.

Basically, their generation took over and claimed JRPGs were always stories with little exploration and a straight path. I'm old enough to remember Final Fantasy games being famous for choosing who is in your party and exploring the worlds and towns in an airship or ship.

If Yoshi P left I would be scared someone else taking over and ruining this company all over again. Zipperman is a great developer, but he needs to be managed rather than allowed to do what he wants.

That's me since the end of Vanilla. I love XIV, it's the best-for-me MMO I've ever played, but I can't say there aren't aspects of other games that I miss. Part of that's the lack of voice chat in games compared to the early 2000s; no guild or FC I've been in after that first two used voice comms very much and had an equivalent lack of group bond.

Tbh i feel like thats something 14 has always been missing. I've just never felt that mmo group feel with this game. It feels like most everything is just get on discord and chat or get on discord vc to raid. I always liked just being out in the open world in an mmo, partying with people and getting to explore. Their latest stance on making the game more of a solo experience just denies any of this getting any growth or attention i suppose.

That said, I don't feel the game is going in a direction I personally like. A lot of activities I used to enjoy are no longer fun. Classes are bland, combat still doesn't flow well, healers are a lost cause, Hunts became a chore, crafting is dead, bots are rampant, FC's are neglected. I don't feel a sense of loyalty or attachment to the game, I just don't feel there's a better MMO on the market right now. If there was, I probably wouldn't be here.

The game is good in a safe way, the developers are better than a lot of other developers, but I don't "love" the game and I'm not hooked. It's just my preferred way to burn spare time at the moment. I hate to admit it, but I think somewhere deep down there's that old WoW player in me that misses guild raid nights, the big mount and pet collections, the toy box, responsive combat, pet battles, tmog tabs, achievements and all the rest of it. Maybe I'm just waiting for a new game that brings that spirit back without the gamebreaking downsides and flaws.
This is exactly how I feel about it. I've been playing the game because the story was fairly good in SHB and I also enjoyed HW and SB, with the PVE being decent, but I did not enjoy EW's story conclusion, so that just leaves the PVE aspects. I'm giving it the benefit of the doubt for now to see what comes in the future but the game would benefit from some competition. But there were still aspects I loved about WoW, like its racial lore and class design and some of the stuff you mention, which I don't really get out of this game... equally WoW is too much of a mess to return to it. So I bide my time waiting for another MMO while just using this to burn spare time.

I would say try lost ark, but Amazon done made it to pay to win past a certain point that it is easy to get burnt out fast with the little content it has in it to progress towards end game.

I'm playing Lost Ark on the side. Quite enjoying it at the moment, but I am going through it slowly.

I'm going assume they're referring to Nomura and Matsuno, but those two hardly did anything that would qualify as remotely close to killing the series or the company.

It's always been SE taking gambles on huge, ambitious projects that put the company in the hole, with the monumental flop of FF: Spirits Within being the first danger, followed by the horrible mishandling of XIV 1.0.

As of recent times they seem to spending an unusually large amount of effort on trying to push new IPs with little success, whilst FF and DQ continue to carry the bulk of the company's profits.

Mm. It's a good backup option if nothing else. I wasn't particularly impressed with Endwalker and I'm willing to give 6.1 a chance but even if I put aside my waning interest in FFXIV's story...I want a game first and foremost and there's a worrying lack of meaningful, enjoyable content to speak of.

I don't care for the glorified visual novel that some seem to want this game to become and MMO's are about a shared experience so I don't have much enthusiasm towards the idea of everything becoming 'solo friendly' either.

Theodric, you use that term constantly. What exactly do you think this game has in common with a visual novel?
