I am of the mind to not eliminate incentive to run alliance raids. I've ran Puppet's Bunker many times farming the caster top from there, and if I could just get it with 5-7 token from the raid, then I would have stopped running it a long time ago. That top gives me a reason to run Puppet's, which helps the other players who need or want to run it.

Nothing wrong with tossing in RNG and/or just good 'ol fashioned luck when it comes to obtaining some things in the game.

Tokens don't eliminate the need to run a duty, they just eliminate the need to run it into the ground and still not have the thing you needed.

The overall cycle of people running it will continue with or without them earning one extra piece of gear after a certain number of runs.

Easy. Every week you can earn up to 4 tokens from Alliance raid roulette. 1 token per run with 2 being used for body and leg gear and 1 for head, gloves, and boots. Or if there is nothing you want from it, turn the tokens in for extra poetics. All placed neatly within your currency tab.

Just my opinion. Won't lose sleep if you don't like it.

Bring back the coins to old Alliance Raids, make the gear available to purchase with the coins from the raid.

What are you on about? The only time you need to run a duty is when it stands in the way of your progression. It's the rewards the duty gives that provides the incentive to continue to run it. Once you have what you're after, then the incentive to run it goes away, and you will only run it when a roulette throws you in it. That's the "cycle" you're talking about if I am under the right impression. I'm talking about the kind of luck that indiscriminately rewards players; not the kind that sends you somewhere you don't care to be in the first place.

Sorry, are you being intentionally obtuse? It's pretty clear that by "need" I mean you... well, you do need to run it if your goal is to acquire a certain item that only drops from the raid. Getting technical about need vs incentive is overly pedantic. This is a videogame; we don't truly need to be doing any of it.

So replace need with be incentivised if you want. The point still stands. What people are asking for (and you are saying we shouldn't have) in this thread is protection against relying on "the kind of luck that indiscriminately rewards players" by giving them a fallback if they have run it a certain number of times without getting the thing they want.

It doesn't remove the incentive to run it multiple times for a piece, it just puts an upper limit on the number of runs (until the next time they want something).

The RNG present in trying to get loot from Alliance Raids is literally the worst way to incentivize players.
Sure, you don't absolutely NEED the gear, that doesn't mean they shouldn't let players get it.

And once you start doing it repeatedly, it's very easy to stop caring about performing well. You just put in the minimal effort because the game doesn't reward you for trying.

Filling up duties for first timers is what the roulette is here for though.

Back in ARR, when World of Darkness dropped, I *really* wanted the tank chestpiece. I ran that thing at least once per day. I didn't get it until a few weeks before HW released. In all my runs, I only ever saw it drop once before, and I was on a healer at the time. Anything that would ameliorate that kind of experience would be fantastic.

I'd be all for using previous currencies or even Poetics to buy specific old-content raid gear since 99.9% of the time it's for glamour anyway. I'm not terribly excited about the idea of leveling a caster from 1 to 80 and farming NiER raids to get pretty dresses for my Femroe, but it's going to happen because pretty dresses are pretty.

Better yet, make them dyable Replica XYZ items a lvl 1 can wear. I know, I know, that's asking for a lot...
