Devs, please make job crystals in lv 31+ content mandatory.

Another thing that's silly right now is that when you start the game as a brand new character there's plenty of options for dps, you have 2 alternatives for tanks but for healers you only have CNJ/WHM. If you want to play SCH you need to get to lvl 30 as a dps, which is not the role you want to play. That's kinda bizarre and a dinosaur of a distant past still lingering around.

Having SCH start independantly at lvl 30 would help a little with having more flavor than the mandatory CNJ/WHM in the early game (and no, AST doesn't count because you have to go all the way to HW to unlock it, even if it starts at 30 too.)

I don't think they've found a way to decouple the two yet without resetting one or the other, but generally before Lv 30 Physick still has usage due to how HP values are still low. Once you get to 30, you just choose to either swap to a Healer or go along with DPS still.

Once upon a time. The game has changed TREMENDOUSLY already.

As for a good moment to decouple the 2 jobs they missed a very good chance to do it during the numbers crunch, when they reset the lingering xp between lvls and had to double check for errors. They could have just copied the ACN/SMN lvl into the SCH one if we had the job unlocked.


Go look at the skills SCH and SMN have in common right now. There's... some Ruin, "Energy Drain" and Physick. (Edit: oh, and Resurrection). And that's it. SMN doesn't even have Bio anymore, which used to be iconic of the class/job.

Ruin: SCH started using the name Broil anyway, just turn Ruin 1 into Broil 1 and go all the way to 4 (SMN has Ruin 4 anyway) and call Ruin 2 something else.

Energy Drain: The only thing they share is the name, they do completely different things, opposite even. One gives aetherflow charges while the other consumes them. They don't even need to keep the name "aetherflow" for the resource of both jobs. Call it anything, really.

Physick: Honestly, is this necessary on ACN/SMN? Solo content isn't even an excuse, BLM can survive just fine without any healing spells.

Resurrection: Multiple jobs have raise spells and they can be named anything, it doesn't matter at all. Except Verraise because Ver.



TL;DR just remove or rename a couple of skills and you have nothing tying both jobs together, make them completely independant already.

Agree with 1 and 2 but not 3. I kinda like being able to simultaneously level 2 jobs at the same time. Helps with using healer queues to level up Summoner.

That’s the thing for me though; because it’s easier to level up dps than healer, I never play as the healer. Scholar is a dead class to me, as I’ll just play whitemage by the time I cap the job. I have yet to play scholar at all beyond quests because I never needed to and thus have no experience playing it. So, because I wasn’t forced to try it out while leveling, I naturally gravitate towards the healer job I’m comfortable playing.

Whereas I have gotten quite a bit of practice with Sage and might even play it sometimes at cap because I’ve experience doing it while leveling.

Can't see how this could create a problem in other areas, sure. Though I don't think it's that big a deal. Me force healing a gladiator through Brayflox is still a story my wife and I laugh at years later.

For me I just didn’t know I needed to do a quest at 30 so I was a conjurer till like 38 or something
