All a trust really needs to do is average dps, and mechanics correctly and everything can be cleared with a trust group. The key with trusts is they have to be worse than the other players or everyone will use them instead. Right now that is the case here, but just barely because of how bad a sizeable chunk of this games players are.
What will kill the game is if Trusts become decent enough to rival an OKish player.
A good example of this is Guild Wars 1. When it came out it had AI player fill-ins called Henchmen that were not bad, but played just above what was required of them. Then towards the end they added Heroes, which were customizable ai companions that you geared and setup their build. Some builds the AI played better than a player could... so you never took another player with you.

You'd be surprised. A lot of poor players don't use the Trust because if they die they have to start boss fights over. Someone in NN was saying that they spent 20 minutes on the level 85 dungeon's final boss and finally gave up and asked for a group to be put together. They said "If you mess up more than once it wipes you." I'm not sure what specific mechanism is that difficult that they had problems, but I'm sure that they are not the only player who would rather be carried instead of doing the Trust. The updated AI for some mechanisms also make it so that you need to do a better job of learning rather than just following them around (i.e. first boss of the lvl 87 dungeon, there are a few trust NPCs that basically "teleport"/jump to the correct spot way too late for you to follow.
