Day after day the forums show just how tribal and misguided parts of the playerbase is.
If xiv is so bad and dry why not drop the game n play something else?
And I don't want to hear "but my house". That's virtual and is entirely up to you if you feel it's worth keeping

Its more so that people must really love this game to want to stay "addicted" if people are complaining about "lack of content" otherwise why try to justify your time and subscription when all these years they've been stuck with the philosophy of "Come and get your fill, then come back for some more later" design? Ive been stating this in multiple threads by now but I doubt most of the playerbase already completed all the side quests, mount farms, Eureka, Bozja, Triple Triad cards, FATE grinds, Beast Tribes, emote collecting/Firmament, Relic weapons, Glams, Housing, RP, *cough* erp *cough* etc. There's plenty of old content that's still relevant or appealing for people to go back and do. How about we first finish our plate before asking for more? Me personally Ive been playing this game very casually and even though Ive already finished the MSQ, I'm still putting in time to finish up older content and so far has been enough for me to keep busy while I wait for 6.1

Now I know not everyone is interested in being a completionist or doing everything listed here, but at the very least acknowledge that this stuff is still here for people to do while we wait for new stuff (which people seem to just ignore the fact that there was even a roadmap shown in the live letter).

Because we like XIV and would like to play it?
But there's nothing engaging to do for us aside savage. The endgame is empty and we're allowed to wish for more. I know I wouldn't even be subbed right now if I still didn't have to do weekly reclears with my static in preparation for DSW.

Houses are a sleazy feature designed to keep people paying. IMHO it's the main reason instanced housing will never happen. It would allow players the freedom to take long breaks and not lose anything.

Whether the decision came from YoshiP or not doesn't matter.

That logic only applies if everybody already owns a house to begin with already, or did you forget that its still next to impossible for every single casual player to own a house in their own time unless they go out of their way to dedicate a good portion of game time to purchase one?

That logic applies to every player on every server in every ward who owns a house.

The "housing is a cheap way to keep people paying subs" is a hollow argument. If someone is really willing to pay over 10$/month to keep a virtual piece of property in a game they don't really care about otherwise, they have bigger issues that need sorting out.

Indeed they have, so i don't see how SE exploiting people with such problems is a "hollow argument". Also, I don't see what other reason could explain how some people who have been playing FFXIV for years and have obviously had enough of the game and don't want to play anymore still keep paying and "playing". Only other reason that comes to mind is that they're incredibly stupid.

It is not SE's job to babysit adults. SE is hardly "exploiting" anyone, nor is this even remotely a predatory thing. Adults need to take responsibility for their actions and choices. If owning a house in a virtual game that you hate is truly that important to you, that's a you thing and there is nothing SE could do to fix it.

Moreover, I have yet to encounter even a single person who was so addicted to owning a virtual house in this or ANY game, yet hated everything else and couldn't walk away.

I HAVE met over a dozen that let their house lapse and regretted it later, but nobody nerd raged over it.

You can take a break for as long as you like and not lose an apartment (instanced housing) or an FC room (instanced housing), since they're not subject to being demolished. The disadvantage for the FC room is going to be whether you get kicked from the FC during your 'long break' or not. Something you'll want to discuss ahead of time.
