It really isn't just these forums. You go to any official game forum and it's filled with people criticizing design choices, story, gameplay, etc. Most of the regular forum goers are passionate about the game, but what happens is that in their attempt to fix what they perceive to be flaws, things they don't personally enjoy or simply things they don't like, they tend to get overzealous. The less tactful among us come off as downright disrespectful to the point that you wonder if they do actually like the game. They also tend be short-sighted and focus on how it affects their enjoyment, with others enjoyment not really mattering to them, which is a big point- what are big flaws to some are minor flaws to others or even strengths.

I do appreciate the passion most players have and I understand them wanting to improve what they believe are flaws. I do wish they'd actually give credit where it is due more, but one of our failings as a species is that we're hard-wired to focus on the negative and exacerbate it to the point that it harms out enjoyment of other things.

Enjoyment is subjective, for both story and gameplay. Too many people on forums seem to think it's fact.
