I am beginning to suspect that the games communities are drastically different data center by data center and server by server.

They are, and sometimes the differences are actually huge.

The English forum isn't really representative of any of them. The English forums are, by and large, a pit of discontent.

From the time that Ive spent here recently its pretty much conclusive that the forums are 80% negative andies complaining about every single thing. To be fair, there's a lot of good criticism and feedback mixed in here and there but it gets overshadowed by people just addressing their issues with such contempt that its such a miracle that the in-game community isnt like this at all. I figure this is just the typical MMO forum flair though, just kinda hoped that the forums here at the veeery least better reflected at the so called "positive community" of FFXIV.

No I'm not looking for everybody becoming special snowflakes here, let me just outright state that before someone decides to either read too much into what I say and get offended or ignore my words and just cherry pick the parts that gives their knickers in a twist.

I love this game and I would not have stayed for so long if I did not. In this time the game helped me mentally through a very serious illness and also a bad accident in 2018! all the lovely memories I have and hope to still make. The game is not perfect but I am happy. I would love to see more character creation but other than that the game is amazing and I feel it should be said more often instead of the negative.

The game is more or less he best it ever has been. My list of complaints is teensy tiny while my praises are endless. This forum has been a hive of nonsense basically forever. Prior to 2.0 launching it was almost entirely 1.0 holdouts wishing they wouldn't shutter the game and it's never gotten past that batch of lunatics.

To some people, the better a game is, the more the few flaws it does have are going to stand out, and in my case there are definitely some things that stick out like a sore thumb and have not been addressed for years now; the laughably bad moderation of cheaters and the flawed hunt system that arguably punishes you for putting effort into it being of the two biggest sour points to me.

It's certainly not making the game completely unenjoyable to me but it gets a bit frustrating when you know that if more people made a significant outcry about those few problems the devs most likely would try to address them, but alas, the majority are either unaware or they just don't care.

You've summed up everything I love about this game. Like you, I played other games for years and years, and enjoyed them in their time. Unlike all the others, XIV's the only game I've ever wanted to BE IN; not just play, but immerse myself in the world simply for the enjoyment of being in the world. Gridania's my home as well and few things in the game are as enjoyable to me as simply walking through the different zones in the Shroud.

I've had to take breaks for RL reasons at different times, both from XIV and different games. XIV's the *only* game I've always come back to.

The variety of content options blew my mind when I first started; being able to do everything on a single character got me incredibly invested in him, and through him, the world, and through the world, the game. It's only been in the past couple of months, seven years after starting my XIV journey, that I've made an alt. I only did that to re-experience ARR and HW as a fresh character, not in New Game +, and not out of any dissatisfaction with my main. Seeing the story unfold with knowledge of what's to come has only heightened my appreciation of the game.

Everything's amazing, I'm VERY happy to be here, and have every expectation of being here for many years to come.

Imo FFXIV is the best game on the market and has my favorite story in gaming, even tho some of the characters might be flawed ( *cough* Y'shtola's lack of development *cough* ) I still think they've done an incredible job at building them into the MSQ especially for a MMO.

My biggest issue with the game is probably the gearing tbh, it's too slow and annoying at times imo.
I especially don't like the tomestone pricing of a lot of stuff ( why do I need two weeks for gloves? I am 10 tomestones off... Why is the weekly cap not at least 500? And also I should be able to buy the upgrade items for tomestones imo. ).
The books should also be able to scale down imo, if I don't need the gear from book 3 for example I should be able to use them to buy stuff that book 1 and 2 can buy too.

One of the unique things about FFXIV is the Jobs and being able to play all of them on the same character, but the gearing doesn't reflect that.
I get having limits so you can't gear up in a single week but at the same time it really sucks when you can't even get one piece a week because your RNG is horrible.
I have some kind of a Savage curse where I only roll either 20-30 or lower it's ridiculous at this point in P2S this week I rolled a 4 and 5.................
I spent a whole week trying to clear P3S through pf too which was a complete nightmare ( not because of the fight, but because of the people ) and I rolled my usual 20-30 on everything doesn't exactly feel that great even if I was happy to FINALLY get the kill.
Imo you should pretty much be guaranteed a piece every week at least, I honestly don't even like the thing with rolling against people it feels very archaic to me and it's just frustrating I don't find it fun at all.
Imo the loot should drop and then you should be allowed to pick, they could still have the books to incentivize people to keep clearing later floors too.

Thank you for this thread. Even when great new things are announced, like the graphic update (which gave me an insane amount of hype), most things I read here are people complaining that we're getting this update and not any other random update that they personally want more, or how any effort from the dev team seems to suck in their book. Such a complete lack of gratitude and level of entitlement have been making me quite annoyed, so I've tried to stay away from the forum as much as I can (x_x)

But yes, I'm in love this game, I appreciate all the efforts the devs are doing, and I'm definitely looking forward to all the new things they have planned (especially the graphic update! -Daydreams-). Eorzea is my happy place.
