Eh, Elder Scrolls Online and Guild Wars 2 aren't exactly raid focused and are both doing fairly well for themselves with a lot of content geared towards solo pursuits. I play the former in my spare time precisely because FFXIV has had such a lack of content that interests me at the moment. I'm not a raider, either.

Who is we? I have probably played this game longer than you have. I can tell you now, it used to have a lot more casual content, and a lot more harder content. It pretty much appeased everyone. Now there just isn't content. I am not really understanding how you can defend this by saying they aren't turning this into WoW. You have to have content to retain a player base. People left WoW because there was not enough content, and the content they added was just a endless grind.

There is a difference between a grind fest, and being able to log in and do something. Other than running a roulette for tome stones, and savage there really isn't that much to do as a long time player.



The recent live letter they are essentially making the trust system for all MSQ content. Thus making this game pretty much have a single player mode. Now no one said anything about catering to raiders, you always seem to bring this up in your posts for reasons beyond me. This is a subscription based MMO and should provide more content for online cooperative play than it would single player play. This is the point of an MMO AKA massive multiplayer online game. That being said, I do not believe it is smart to expect more players to want to play FFXIV because of a single player mode. No one is going to want to play a subscription based singe player game. If people choose to be anti social, that is fine, but this behaviour should not reflect the design philosophy of the game.

I am well aware of how MMOs work. Iamnot against group content as I am not against solo content. I have been playing MMO's since the late 80s, turn based, text, 2d, etc. Some are too group dependant and gate many people from playing. This has been the way it's worked for too many years. Everything evolves. What I do not agree with is another player telling another player how they should enjoy a game. It's why I asked the questions I asked that got ignored. You are labeling people as anti social because you feel?, Why? Are you threatened by someone who would like to accomplish something by themselves? Whose design philosophy? Apparently not Yoshi P's. Maybe thinking outside of the box once in a while will help with your strict definition of what a MMO means.

When these people say content they mean exactly one type of content to the exclusion of others., we all know it. To pretend otherwise is quite disingenuous.

The history of MMOs is an endless procession of games made like you all want..."hard" and "endgame" games made by first gen MMO players who are now devs...and demanded by a small, but exceedingly loud group of first gen MMO players entering middle age and trying to recapture the feeling EverQuest gave them as a kid. They all failed because that isn't what the current gaming population wants. Even your vaunted WoW was from that time and would fail now. IMHO WoW only succeeded because it was coasting on Blizzards golden name and riding on a popular franchises coat tails, not because it was that great.

I believe it's important for the game to have content that caters to a wide variety of people. That includes raiders. Beast tribes, doh/dol, gold saucer, hunts, triple triad, treasure maps, ex trials, roulettes, alliance raids, exploratory missions, housing, pvp, deep dungeons. It's all different types of content.

However, the game doesn't offer that much in regards to challenge, especially for solo players. Forming statics is more time consuming than some people realize, and sometimes it doesn't work out. When you're playing in a static, you're playing the game on a schedule and raid log.

I can go boot up Dead Cells, Slay the Spire, Guilty Gear Strive, Risk of Rain 2, Hades etc... and have some content that's compelling and engaging. FFXIV doesn't have much in the way of fun replayable content. After weeks of doing the Expert roulette, as much as the developers put a lot of love and time in the endgame dungeons, I can't stomach doing Smileton anymore, and beyond hunts, every other method of gaining tomes is considerably slower.

The great thing about the internet is that allows people to be both obviously wrong and extremely confident at the same time.

Telling the company that makes the FINAL FANTASY series that no one plays single-player games is the hottest of takes.

There is indeed a market for single-player games.

There is not, however, a large market for MMO's poorly bent into an extremely suboptimal, feature-incomplete single-player experience that costs 15usd per month on top of its base price. Other SE titles are built from the ground up to be single-player experiences and offer a deep feature-set consistent with that vision. This game does not do that, at all, and it never will be able to do so to a satisfactory level. They are better off doing a single-player remake that reimagines the story after this game goes into life-support.
