Ya, it's a shame they didn't go into more detail to give players an idea of what to expect but part of me thinks it might be connected to relic quest. Hence it being solo-team based, if they attach it all to criterion, then in theory they could have it where the more challenging you make it for yourself, the more rewards you get towards your relic weapon objective, which could be fun.

Would also be interesting if they did consider score attack or even branching paths that could be taken within the dungeon. Since in theory they kinda have a setup with treasure maps, all they have to do is make it where each path actually l leads somewhere with different penalties/boons rather than getting kicked out.

I am hopefuly for Criterion though, if they can actually bring some life back to dungeons it will be fun, since as it stands now, the current dungeon design is severely flawed and just feels like training wheels. Like sure, it's not that we get to see unique locations for 8 locales, but it has that 1.0 feel where it's all just copy paste, adds-boss-adds-boss-adds-boss. There isn't much depth to keep it engaging since it's always the same routine where the only unique aspect added are from the bosses themselves, the dungeon is just a different coat of paint of the same room.

It would be neat that if the concept of Criterion did succeed in making dungeons more dynamic and interesting to go through that they incorporate them into the leveling experience of 7.0, it would be nice to have a varied style of dungeons to progress through rather than samey.

This comparison is kinda strange, because although 1.X dungeons had a lot of copy-paste confusingly similar rooms and hallways from a layout standpoin at least they were actual deep labyrinths and even the less confusing Yoshida-era 1.X dungeons had a lot more going for their layout and progression than anything from 2.0 onwards.
