    Criterion Dungeons?

So the recent LL in patch 6.2 we will be introduced to criterion dungeons. Supposedly they will be challenging dungeons depending on how many people is in your group. From 1-4 man parties. I’m guessing 4 being the more challenging.

Could this be the mythic+ Style dungeons allot of players in the community have been begging for, for years? Hmm what do you think?

I’m actually really excited for it.

Given that in their extended roadmap section they mentioned new dungeons being added later on in the cycle, it doesn't seem to me like it is going to be a chain of connected dungeons but instead one off dungeons that are custom tuned to "Criterion" standards. I'm also wondering if they will be completely new dungeons or essentially old Hard Mode dungeons just given a new name, with the old already existing layouts and what have you being repurposed and reused in new/different ways.

As someone who likes to do the odd solo challenge, I'm very interested in hearing more especially since they say the Criterions are supposed to be actually intended for solo play as opposed to the clunky, unbalanced "solo" experience in Deep Dungeons.

Yes I’m wondering what the rewards gonna be. I also believe they will be new dungeons all together. Not redesigned older ones.

I hope their idea of "more challenging" doesn't just mean harder bosses. Dungeons haven't felt like dungeons since Lv60. Hopefully criterion will.

I doubt it. Also, they are speaking of 1 (!) Dungeon at first with two following.
I really dont see them doing diffrent mechanics when you change the member count, so they have to design the dungeon for players who arent tanks. Which heavly limits the mechanical side of it.

I’m not so sure. Look at palace at the dead. You can solo that as any job. I think if you’re dps you will just have to use potions/hi potions maybe? If you don’t have a tank and healer. Maybe could be some other criteria like we gather items like in potd and some might be healer related, tank related etc. I mean they had to think that won’t always go in as tank or healer. Dps need a way to survive this “challenging dungeon” right?

The easiest way to pull this off would be an Echo buff that includes a powerful heal-over-time and a new kind of vuln stack that suppresses said heal. Mess up too many mechanics, you bleed out from autoattacks and unavoidable damage, but if you're doing the mechanics correctly, you don't need to worry about autoattacks and the occasional raidwide and can just kill the boss.

Ya, it's a shame they didn't go into more detail to give players an idea of what to expect but part of me thinks it might be connected to relic quest. Hence it being solo-team based, if they attach it all to criterion, then in theory they could have it where the more challenging you make it for yourself, the more rewards you get towards your relic weapon objective, which could be fun.

Would also be interesting if they did consider score attack or even branching paths that could be taken within the dungeon. Since in theory they kinda have a setup with treasure maps, all they have to do is make it where each path actually l leads somewhere with different penalties/boons rather than getting kicked out.

I am hopefuly for Criterion though, if they can actually bring some life back to dungeons it will be fun, since as it stands now, the current dungeon design is severely flawed and just feels like training wheels. Like sure, it's not that we get to see unique locations for 8 locales, but it has that 1.0 feel where it's all just copy paste, adds-boss-adds-boss-adds-boss. There isn't much depth to keep it engaging since it's always the same routine where the only unique aspect added are from the bosses themselves, the dungeon is just a different coat of paint of the same room.

It would be neat that if the concept of Criterion did succeed in making dungeons more dynamic and interesting to go through that they incorporate them into the leveling experience of 7.0, it would be nice to have a varied style of dungeons to progress through rather than samey.

This comparison is kinda strange, because although 1.X dungeons had a lot of copy-paste confusingly similar rooms and hallways from a layout standpoin at least they were actual deep labyrinths and even the less confusing Yoshida-era 1.X dungeons had a lot more going for their layout and progression than anything from 2.0 onwards.
