see... i disagree? everybody has always had the same opportunity to set an alarm and log in for the 5 minutes it takes for a first come first serve launch to get resolved. connection errors and login ques suck but they're not UNFAIR. the cruel whims of fate don't know who i am when they disconnect me.


so yah... i don't think a lottery is more fair. at least not significantly so. maybe you could make a case for people who work odd hours or something. but REALLY it's just easier. so easy as to be incidental. and i think that a lot of people are gonna be disappointed when they realize how much worse their odds will become when the competition expands from "only the people who care enough to SLIGHTLY inconvenience themselves" to "everybody"?

So randomly getting dropped by the login server is fair? I don't understand how anyone could think that. And getting houses on some servers are measured in seconds. So PC and net connection comes into play. So I can afford X program that improves my connection and a top of the line PC where I can be halfway across the zone before you load. Also I can spend time or pay someone to config my connection to improve my speed even more. Didn't people also have a guide to improve login chances as well? These are not things that I would consider fair that influence a first come first server system. But if you feel they are fair I guess it is just a difference of opinions, which is fine not everyone agrees.

Yep, (after Ishgard is done and we are back to the rare demolished small) about the same chance as winning the Grand Cactpot.

It is becoming increasingly apparent to me that some of the posters here in this thread are merely concerned about their own chances of getting a plot and have little or no concern about others. I will repeat, under the current availability of plots, the ONLY system that is fair for ALL is the lottery system. The only way forward to fairly increase the chances for everyone to get a plot is to introduce more housing.

Lottery is very fair, just as fair as the Grand Cactpot, no better, no worse.

In 9 years of play I have won Grand Cactpot just one time. So, I would certainly have my weekly chance lottery won Goblet 52 small, based on that.

That is irrelevant to the point I have been making with regards to the lottery system. Yes, your chance to earn a plot will suck. It will, however, be the same for all. In a game like this, it is important to make the system fair for EVERYONE. The lottery system will at least accomplish that. If you want to increase your odds of getting a property, I suggest you add your voice to the chorus of voices asking SE to add more housing.

I think that SE are more interested in adding new servers to the NA, EU and JP datacentres than putting in new servers for housing. This pushes it out to 2024 at least.

As one veteran who fought every housing war (and won some), I am for the lottery.
It's absurd that someone is willing to waste hours and hours of time clicking an handful of pixels, hoping to be the lucky one.
The best choice is (as always) "give more and more houses, so there is not a black market" but the lottery is still a decent idea, because no one can blame his ISP, his computer/graphic card/ bots /third party login app and so on.

How do you KNOW what is going on in the minds of people who will be applying for a plot under the new lottery system? There may be hundreds, or perhaps even thousands of people out there who really want a house but have never stood a chance at getting one because of factors beyond their control. I don't know what their situations are. I don't know what is running through their minds with regards to housing. I am willing to give everyone the benefit of the doubt. I HAVE to give everyone the benefit of the doubt if I am to claim any sense of being a fair minded person.

I, 101% expect there will be. In fact, on some servers there will be many more than the 1:10,000 chance of grand cactpot. I wouldn't be surprised on some servers if the chance of winning is 1:30,000

With a 1:30,000 chance you actually have more likelyhood of winning a home by running up in the 12 to 14 hour primetime and putting in a single click of the placard. That's 1:1440 chance.

These odds doesn't seem logical. Your odds should only be against the number of players competing for the same plot and not the entire server.

In any case, even if the odds are astronomical, that doesn't matter as lottery is still objectively more fair than FCFS if the aim is allow everyone a fair shot at housing, not just the minority who is able to camp at their PC and login immediately on 6.1 release.
