I'd call it the "I want to say no but my boss would get mad" response.

Asia is full on board the NFT train, especially... 'drumroll'... Japan! That being said they know full well many of the West straight up hate NFTs with a passion, while many others still havent a clue what it is. So yeah pretty unlikely to hit FFXIV, but other Square properties could very well see such especially mobile games (Another thing thats exploded in popularity in Asia, even beating out console and pc games by a massive margin unlike in the West), so we shall see how all that goes in the future.
If NFT hits any of SE games, that's the day my sub ends. Not funneling money into criminal schemes.

To put it most obviously, YoshiP is the lead on FF16 as well and he has a major place on the SE board. So, will we see NFTs in FF16? FF17? Etc. There are other games outside of FF14 that YoshiP has at least a partial hand in developing and I'd rather NFTs not ruin those.

Exactly. Several companies that have expressed interest (or absolute intent) in NFTs have reconsidered because of negative feedback. It can and does work. It's better to say that we don't want it now rather than wait until they release something ruined by it.

Yoshi-P is on the board of directors at SE. He can't just outright say "NFTs are all just a dumb scam", because Square Enix wants to sell NFTs to dumb rich people.Well, that wasn't pleasant information to receive. I mean, it's good they won't be coming to FF14 but he honestly should have just shut them down in full.
I don't usually agree with Twitch chat but this was one case where the absolute explosion of.. displeasure was well warranted.

are people just really that "insecure"?
Even if he flat out say what you want, what make you think that's a 100% guarantee it won't happen. Not like his statement is legally binding. As of now what he said is good enough.
Given the cesspool known as social media (twitch, twitter ...etc...) I doubt even had he said what you wanted to hear, they'll find something to complain about anyway. I mean ... reddit already have a leading thread about "yaya Yoshi may feel that way but he's just one person at the company yada yada".
Plus, I wonder how many of these complainers actually work in a team environment or have any skill in workplace relation at all. You don't come out shutting down and direct contradict your co-workers or boss publicly, unless your intention is to walk away or trying to get that person fired soon right after. Try that at where you work and see how well it goes. In this instance he makes his stance known, give a good/reasonable assurance on the technical side to the audience while maintaining a proper respect for his colleagues, he's far more mature than the "explosion" culture of social media.
He suggested that most people in the west don't understand NFTs, and he would love to do a talk at some later stage saying how good they are.
やはり、お前は……笑顔が……イイ

I disagree. Every chance to reiterate just how poorly they will be received is warranted. Because the alternative is letting them think the backlash won't be so bad.

To use NFTs the game would have to be removed from Steam.
In other news, there is no technical debt from 1.0.
"We don't have ... a technological issue that was carried over from 1.0, because ARR was meant to kind of discard what we had from 1.0 and rebuild it from the engine."
