Islands and ocean exploration for next expansion!

They tried to give us this content once and it became the OG Diadem. You had to go there on your own FC airship.

While I am not opposed to the addition of sea voyage/exploration content I would much rather it not be attached to an entire expansion based off the New World for 7.0. The whole pirate aesthetic and the New World as a setting just doesn't appeal to me as something I'd be willing to tolerate an entire expansion's worth of.

I actually wouldn’t mind several self contained islands as zones, with a hub port town we can use to embark to the various zones. Story wise I dunno, and I don’t really think we need a ship..but it could be interesting. Maybe use my closet full of neglected/probably dead squadron members.

I think this is a huge ask and so unlikely to happen. FF XIV just isn't much of an exploration game.

THAT said, if it were to happen...I would want them to go all the way with it and connect the existing continents somehow. I'm somewhat irked that Endwalker added isolated map regions instead of "building out" from Aldenard and Othard better. Makes everything feel really disjointed.

I remember back in PSHome, there was this Pirate Ship Battle Royale type of game that was a lot of fun. If they could do something like that, it would be awesome. You could have factions like The Bloody Executioners, Kraken’s Arms, Sanguine Sirens, The Confederacy, etc.

Yeah, it started out as "explore islands!" and then got scope trimmed down to what we ended up with in OG diadem.

FC airships "explore" the various islands now instead. And farm stuff there. But they are definitely exploring islands. You just never get to see what they look like. Sure would be nice if we could give the mammet a camera.

My point is OP's idea is really cool! And SE tried to do it! And because building something like that is a lot harder than it sounds, the result sucked.
