Pretend you're not a troll all you want. Anyone who pays attention to what you post knows you are. So you can try this act if you want. Strangely enough no one but you mentioned Titanman...guilty conscience?
Yeah, WoW has tried the seafaring thing in a couple of expansions and it was always a miserable experience. Vash’jir was terrible and pretty much all of BFA was just tedious and awful too. I wasn’t big on the Ruby Sea or the Tempest either in this game. Guess I’m not an island and ocean theme kinda person.no thank you.
for a properly done seafaring game, it needs to be done that way from the ground up. you cannot easily shoehorn that in to an existing game. not to mention, if the player is in a small ship, why would they be engaging in ship to ship combat? Or should they also be able to hire a pirate crew? maybe, get a spyglass even to examine distant objects and island?
mmos like FFxiv tend to be rather linear, since most people playing like having a set end goal. they also are not all fond of crafting, so this building a ship part may not fly as well as you think. either way, I dont see it as something viable since AC already does it.
Come to think of it, I hated island and sea zones in Everquest as well. Ocean of Tears, Timorous Deep, Gunthak. Hated them all.

I live in your head rent free!
Calm yourself, if I were trolling I'd not be on this account.
The lack of exploration to be had within the game outside of seeing the new zones for the first time when a new expansion goes live is a large part of my frustration with FFXIV. It hits particularly hard of late when the narrative is scaling things back and making our character into a humble adventurer again. I'm very much on board with that decision, since I primarily play fantasy games to lose myself in an immersive world and explore what they have to offer.
So, yeah, I'd very much appreciate the ability to sail off to randomly generated islands and plunder treasure, fight monsters and see interesting sights. I don't think it's an unreasonable request either - older MMO's have managed to implement such content successfully and so have many pseudo-MMO's such as Monster Hunter World.
At the moment, I get my exploration fix from playing ESO but that's a shame since I'd rather not be investing in multiple MMO's given how much of a time sink even one of them can be.
Why are you whining about trolling in a thread where there is none? This is one of the few threads they've posted lately that ISN'T trolling.
I would speak from my own experience about what I consider the most successful attempt of sea exploration.
Years ago. An MMO that I'll not name was launched and their world is an interesting one. The lands were islands floating in the middle of magical space. I liked how the devs took advantage and in a later patch introduced sea exploration. Where the players can build their own ships, customize them, and go exploring in that magical space that did not consist of one big zone or two, but tens if not hundreds of smaller spaces that connect to each other ( Think of Deep dungeon rooms but on a much larger scale and being fixed )
The players must drive their ships manually to their destination ( Driver mode has a full Hotbar of commands such as accelerating, Go right, Go left, Stop, Slow down, etc... ) and survive the journey. Yes, you can get attacked by mobs ( trash or bosses ) and by other players as well, and you'll need to defend your ship by shooting cannons at them. Sometimes trash mobs and players can board your ship and you get to fight them in the traditional way.
Then after the battle, you'll have to repair your ship by picking NPCs from below the deck and throwing them at the damaged parts.
What I liked about this experience the most is that at the port, you can talk to an NPC who would tell you the backstory of each island you may arrive at. Stuff like: "I heard a rumor about a dragon living in X island that used to give guidance." and "In a book, I found at the library there was the tale of Y island, where you can find magical springs that can heal all wounds.". Then afterward you can sail and you may arrive at one of those islands for real. It was the best exploration experience I ever had in an MMO.
Sadly said game is now dead and heavily P2W. Sigh...
But yes I'll strongly support any idea that can give me a similar exploration experience!
..agreed... one of the best parts for me of FFXI was the open world dungeons. Essentially places where you had to play cat-and-mouse with very powerful mobs and deal with traps/locked doors etc. A proper dungeon delve with treasure boxes and random notorious monsters.
Also, in Guildwars 2, just environmental fun to be had via jumping puzzles or exploring awesome nooks and crannies everywhere. It's an older game but if you haven't you should check it out.
This just makes me think back to playing Pirates of the Caribbean Online as a kid. That game was way better than it had any right to be.
