'Armiger' isn't a weapon, it's a system.

Perhaps it could work with an 'Engine Blade', and be the melee magitek job, but that would seem a little too similar to a gunblade to me.

True, but it's something to begin with.
It's something up to the devs to make up, as I'm only here to ask for it and give a basic idea
I still remember back before EW announcements there was a couple of people asking for a reaper job that utilizes scythe similar to a guy from ShB ( Who shall not be named ) and some responses were like: "No a scythe isn't a combat weapon. No a dark-themed melee is just copy/paste DPS DRK"
And If that's any indication. An NPC from EW ( Who shall also not be named ) used a similar concept to a Noctis job and might be a hint or tease towards it being added in the future.
