From what I have read, it seems to me that the way they have implemented the job system still leaves plenty of room later on for the base classes.

They mentioned that Class specific gear will be introduced later.

Also, when you select a Job, you limit your other abilities to one class, whereas people who stick with a class, can select more abilities from other classes.

Perhaps this is old news and I deserve a "Welcome to last month".. But I think this is pretty cool! I was a little worried that the Job system would make the base classes obsolete, but I can definitely see the benefits of sticking to a class over a job if that is what you prefer.

The classes will probably be better off for soloing i'm sure, while jobs are for partying. Of course some jobs seem good for solo as well.

Me too. And it just so happens that Monk is probably one of the classes least affected by lack of cross-class abilities too.

I probably will too, at least early on.

But take Paladin for instance. On my Gladiator, there are three actions that have essentially found a permanant home on my bar when I go out solo.. Protect, Cure, Second Wind. Second Wind is no longer an option as Paladin. I'm sure the PLD stuff will make up for it, but.. I'm soooo used to having Second Wind always available.

What's even funnier is that I could have SWORN everything I read up until today said Paladin was going to be GLD 30 MRD 15.. Then today I see it's GLD/CNJ.. Hehe, glad I levelled my CNJ to 20 for protect. Oh well, silly me, that's what I get for just kinda glancing over stuff until today (didn't wanna get myself too excited too early and make myself impatient).
