    PvP would ruin the game for me. I don't mind the battlegrounds but keep it out of the world. PvP brings nothing to the game but greifing and toxicity. If you want to play a pvp game go play one that is made for that. I would not play that expansion even if I was paid. I would not even keep a sub at that point. PvP for me is not fun, it never has been and it never will be. I don't mind queueing for the Frontline now and then, but I really don't have much fun but the exp is nice. The first sign of toxicity in Frontline I will never que for it again.

    Here in lies an issue that forced participation in pvp would fix. That being the average 14er's distain for it due to being to deal with a challenge. Nothing in this game forces you to get good outside of savage and ultimate. 95% of content can be carried and leeched, and is more of that were pvp in nature then they would more readily forced to get good to get anywhere.

    You are better off playing other games if you want PvP. SE will play it somewhat safe with ff14, they wont reinvent the wheel, they go for simple/casual fun mostly that everyone can experience, hardcore pvp mode is the wrong content for this target group

    I'm sorry but having to just take getting corpse camped by a bunch of idiots who only want to ruin someone else's day is not remotely presenting any sort of challenge. PvP breeds the mentality of preying on others and PKers will group up so they can do it more effectively and also protect themselves from recourse. I am not here to deal with that bs. I've dealt with it in other games and just freaking no.

    Pretty sure open world pvp wouldn't force you to get good, it would force you to hang out in large groups all the time.

    To be fair, it is still a game that took a lot of inspiration from WoW.

    I don't think they should accept that PvP will never be good and that people should play other games, but instead should focus on making the system the best it can possibly be within their own design.

    While I don’t think they’d make pvp centric to an expansion, I do like the idea of there being some internal strife between the Grand Company of Eorzea. Would be rather interesting.

    I think they could make stuff like Frontlines etc better, but having the entire game revolve around it and having player factions is a bad idea and making it too similar to Wow

    A PvP driven expansion is not a great idea, because it does not fit in the lore. I am not an advocate of advancing the lore in this direction, because I think it would be messy.

    If however the lore does advance with the falling of relations to the point of open conflict to allow lore friendly pvp, it should be restricted to a toggle like in Star Wars Galaxies. SWG had 3 faction settings. "On Leave," "Combatant," and "Special Forces." "On Leave" would make it like things are now. Say the player is in the Adders and Gridania is at war with Limsa for some unknown reason, then this player can still pass by Maelstrom players, Maelstrom npcs, and Yellowjacket soldiers without issue. "Combatant" would allow the 'enemy' npcs to attack as well as be attacked by this Adder. If the Adder was under the setting of "Special Forces," then he or she can both engage npcs loyal to Limsa as well as Maelstrom players also tagged as "Special Forces." SWG also had a timer, so you couldn't just gank someone and switch status.

    So, mechanically it is quite possible without scaring people away from the game, but lorewise it is extremely messy. The three leaders of the starting City-Sates get along so well that an open conflict seems completely irrational. Even if you allow players to join Ishgard, Doma, Thavnair, Ala Mhigo, Garlemald, the Steppe Tribes, etc..., it still seems too far-fetched.
