I wish those boxes didn't exist period. I would rather that things remain difficult to obtain no matter how much time passes with the exception of armor/weapons because they quickly get obsolete.
None of those things were difficult to obtain. Just time consuming and/or expensive because of the rarity.
No they weren't (although RNG is a big factor) but the fact remains that they are making it easier to obtain. It would be better in my opinion if they stopped offering things you can obtain one way by another means such as if you can obtain a minion by clearing something, it shouldn't be made available in a moogle scratch thing in the firament or loot boxes. Everytime they do this it devalues whatever they give away. Like take the Copycat bulb. You can get that from a lootbox now instead of Eureka. When retainers bring back craftable loot, then it makes it worse for crafters because right now the market is over saturated with loot and crafted goods. Let's say a table is worth 500k gil, then after the next patch it's worth 200 gil because retainers can now obtain them.
I'm all for doing this for content that is essentially inaccessible (old diadem) but would rather see it moved over to some other challenge. The market is pretty bad right now and it has to do with how easy it is to level omni craft/gather and the freebies that you get from retainers and GC lootboxes is what I'm getting at.
Copycat bulb price hasn't really fallen (on my server) because it's box RNG is as bad as it's eureka RNG.No they weren't (although RNG is a big factor) but the fact remains that they are making it easier to obtain. Not only that, but it makes gil even more useless when literally any rare item will probably become a cheap lootbox drop in the future. Why spend millions on a fancy pet when it could cost 5k later on.
Most minions and certain mounts are tradable for a reason. It gives you something to sell if you get a lucky drop, or it gives you something to do with your gil. Or it might give you a reason to revisit old content to bolster your collection.
With loot coffers, quick ventures, moogle tomes and so on they're slowly making large amounts of old content and all crafting below max level obsolete.
Because some people want it now, and that's worth it to them. Who cares if an item gets added to a lootbox or quick venture a few years down the line? Does it somehow lessen the enjoyment you got out of said item in the meantime?
I know there are quite a few people that view things this way. I'm sure you have your own reasons for playing the game and get upset about something I may see as trivial, but to take something I worked hard for and just hand it out, kind of stupid in my opinion. Look at the Gold Whisker from treasure maps, it was the only thing I had yet to obtain from 70 maps. I now have no reason to go run those maps anymore. Now you've killed the value of that map on the MB for at least one person, possibly more and now achievement hunters trying to clear those maps don't have bodies to do so.
That always happens even without lootboxes though. Old EX/savage mounts become easily farmable in the next expansion, old items become craftable with a single button, relics become a solo farm, etc. The fact that something gets easier later on doesn't magically negate all the effort you put into it or the enjoyment you got out of it originally. You had and got to enjoy the rarity and exclusivity in the mean time.
Even in the real world we see this all the time. That brand new $1000 phone will be a $12 paperweight in ten year, but so what? It still means something to all the people buying one today.
You could say the same about everything mogtomes offer tbh.I know there are quite a few people that view things this way. Agreed. I spent months running dungeons and different things to get minions and music rolls. Ran treasure maps like a fiend, had two Capybara Pups on MB when 6.0 rolled in, instantly worth 90% less value. I'm not mad at the time I spent doing these things, because in the moment, it was fun.Not only that, but it makes gil even more useless when literally any rare item will probably become a cheap lootbox drop in the future. I do have to say though that my drive to play the game has lessened recently as my original drive was being a completionist and taking pride in my collection where I had rare things that you have to get to Floor 150 of POTD for, for example. The Pegasus mount is what I'm speaking of. Now, you can just hope you get it in a lockbox.
Heck, I grinded for days in Pagos to get Copycat Minion and while it is still rare in the GC lockbox, you don't have to do much anymore to try to get it.
