More of these people need to be forced to work Fast Food and Retail for a year. That will teach them how to be humble and treat other human beings better.

I disagree. I worked fast food, and in a few higher end steak houses, and it made me hate people more. Working in an office, in payroll, made me cultivate my "I'm going to kill this person with kindness" tone that I use when an employee calls and is instantly confrontational due to something on their end(like not entering their hours correctly on their timesheet)

That's why those people need to work it. It will teach them as they'll be at the other side now.

Too many of these rude/cruel people lack empathy and compassion. The only way they'll learn is if they actually experience it first hand, sadly.

This is precisely why. Largely a direct result of people shovelling nonsense in your face. It might make people a whole lot more reflective of their own actions - "Christ, so this is how they felt when I was accompanying my criticism with needless insults."

It can also have the opposite effect. I've seen it go both ways, and I've even seen people(who don't last long at all) in offices who talk to customers/employees the same way they get talked to. Sometimes there is no revelations, or change for the better, in some people.

It can have the opposite effect yes, or none at all. The learning experience and opportunity to have a revelation exists all the same. Some people for whatever reason just elect to ignore the opportunity. Which frankly would speak volumes about their own character. I used to be quite the hyperactive bully in my younger years. It wasn't until I had this self-same treatment that I actually understood the reality of my own actions, and the feelings they invoke on those around me.

Not that I agree with forcing a role upon someone. But people would have a lot of realisations if they were treated in their day-to-day job as to how they treat others on their day-to-day - and took the extra step to actually reflect.
