First, the post you quoted wasn't talking about the OP.

Second, it is not ridiculous because it doesn't imply anything. If you are unsatisfied with the current expansion, but still enjoy doing other things in the game, then feel free to continue playing the game. That doesn't contradict the fact that you are free to leave any time as well whenever you are unhappy with the state of the game and come back later when you think it's better.

The post he quoted was in response to OPs, and was literally referencing items in the current expansion like Ultima Thule and the story arc. So I'll reiterate once again this is referencing the current expansion.

Or you know, they can continue to play if they enjoy it and utilize the forums provided by Square to express any concerns or thoughts they have. There is nothing wrong with them expressing concerns and having others essentially replying "just quit" because they are giving feedback, absolutely is ridiculous.

It doesn't matter where the source of the problem is.

    Of course.

No, it's not, because it's a valid response, one that Yoshida himself has used to a direct feedback he received. You're making a big deal out of nothing. If the person in question still has reason to play, then it's fine.

You keep taking Yoshi completely out of context, Yoshi's reply was in response to someone who felt like there was no content at all to do. Here is the context of Yoshi's reply:

"Hey YoshiP, I love FFXIV, but it's hard to keep playing your game (because of the lack of content) and now I'm taking a break here. Sorry for asking this but is there a way or a reason to keep playing? or anything that can you teach me how to keep my motivation for playing your game?" - A player asking Yoshida during Gamescom
Yoshida "It's alright not to play it everyday. Since it's just a game, you can stop forcing yourself if it's hard on you to keep that up. Rather, it'll just pile up unnecessary stress if you limit yourself into playing just that one game since there are so many other games out there. So, do come back and play it to your heart's content when the major patch kicks in, then stop it to play other games before you got burnt out, and then come back for another major patch. This will actually make me happier, and in the end, I think this is the best solution I can answer for keeping your motivation up for the game."
The OP didn't indicate a lack of content in the entire game or that they're quitting, they just didn't like the direction of the current expansion. The person who quoted OP just didn't like the direction of the story. They are just providing feedback.

    To summarize:

OP: The current expansion lacks content.
Person quoting OP: The current expansion story is poorly written.
Person quoting the person quoting OP: JUST QUIT IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT NO ONE IS FORCING YOU TO PLAY.

    Yeah totally valid response.../s.

I just feel this community reacts to feedback very poorly and it is tiresome to see people attacked over and over for doing nothing more than posting what they perceive as legitimate concerns. The developers want to hear feedback, they wouldn't give us the multiple avenues to do so if they didn't. However, we seem time and time again, anything viewed as a perceive slight against the gospel of the FFXIV devs, is immediately lambasted, attacking the person, not the content of the post. By all means just disagree with their points (I disagree with much of the OP) but don't just tell them to quit for providing feedback.

Yes, it's valid because there is no functional difference between the two. Whether there is no content for you to do or not liking the direction of the game in terms of the existing content (including the story), you can feel free to play other games while waiting to see if it gets better.

Do note that the person quoting the OP thinks the writers have lost their integrity. Meaning, if they ever were interested in the story, they might not have any hope for it as long as the current writers are still writing it. And if playing for the story is a major reason for why they play FFXIV, they might have a bad time with FFXIV.

Regardless of whether they have any other reason to play FFXIV, stating that they can feel free to play other games is valid.

I think that you are overreacting. Do not take "feel free to play other games" as an attack. Just don't.

    Got it.

    Feedback: bad

Emtionally charged defense of the devs: good

The fanyboism of this community is mindblowing at times.

Who says feedback is bad? Again, you're overreacting.

Player feedback to dev: I don't like content/direction
Player feedback to player: If you're not enjoying your time in FFXIV right now, feel free to play other games as well or instead.

Both are feedback and neither cancels the other.

The second isn't feedback, the second is just distraction from the purpose of the thread. Feedback would be reading the post and responding to points they made if one disagrees.

This is just discarding the argument telling the other side and NOT discussing the topic. I dont know but telling somebody "play something else" is in this case is not an attack but ignoring the argument and discarding the point of the the other side ....my 2 cents here
So you argument is "stop playing" and OP tells you "i think EW needs more content" the whole topic is "Has EW not enough content?" -

That is feedback as some people like the direction of the game.

And it becomes more valid of a feedback the more the devs stick to a direction, especially if the devs have stated they're sticking to it. Like job designs, for example. If you want Heavensward style job designs and the dev says they don't want to return to that, there is a likely chance that you're not going to like the direction of the game. Playing other games is a valid alternative, and thus it's a valid feedback to give.

Just because you don't like the feedback, doesn't mean it's a distraction. Imagine if devs view feedback as mere noises and distraction. That's ridiculous (though it can probably happen, even with SE).
