This pretty much sums up these forums as a whole. It is never about intelligent discourse. It is simply a popularity contest regardless of how wrong or right the posters actually are.

It's pretty much the internet and forums as a whole. It's never really about who has better logic or a stronger point; it just generally boils down to whoever can sling out an insult, joke, etc, and win the favor of the rest of the people around with it due to the "wit." Should note that the amount of wit required is based on the group and how popular that person already is with said group (IE not always all that much).

I didn't read your exchange though so I can't really tell you if I think you're personally in the right or not. I just find this comment of yours to be pretty accurate about the net in general.
