The other day, I was in Syrcus tower and my alliance's tank decided to rapidly spin the boss around because "It prevents auto attacks from hitting! " and I asked him to stop and he refused so the other alliances took over tanking from him. That's dumb, but then 2 more people from my FC in other content said they ran into tanks doing the same thing, spinning the boss and claiming it avoids auto attacks. Very strange.

Where do people come up with this idea that spinning a mob/boss prevents autos. I posted the same exact scenario some pages back. It is utterly baffling to me.

Enemy spinning to avoid autos is a thing in deep dungeons actually, but it is a bit more involved - precise distance and rotation speed to keep enemy facing 90 degree angle from you is needed, and tanks don't need to do that there, only melee DPS.

Random boss spinning in a situation where you have other players is useless and essentially griefing.

Other than an action combat focused MMO where you need to physically be nimble and actively dodge attacks, I'm not aware of ANY tab target styled MMO where spinning a mob does this.

I personally chalk it up to boredom, trolling, or untreated ADHD at this point.

I’ve heard this happens in WoW with some of the earlier bosses, but don’t know for certain. That said, back in ARR there were bosses you could spin-to-win and they wouldn’t auto you (pretty sure Nael in T9 was one of them). It was considered a reportable offense, though.

I remember the T9 thing and that fight, there's a weird video somewhere out there of Nael enraging super early because of it too. I thought this was a WoWfugee thing but I asked some former WoW players and they said it's not a thing. And one of the tanks spinning to win had cleared savage content so its just obnoxious trolling.

I can't remember any bosses in WoW that could be spun to avoid auto attacks. In fact, more than a few of them had cleaves for autos, so spinning the boss would kill half the party.

You shouldn't be GCD healing anyway unless it's absolutely necessary.

I know this is nitpicking, and I apologize, but I legit encountered someone a couple of weeks ago who had seen the repeated "never use GCD heals unless absolutely necessary" advice that circulates and so refused to use WHM's lilies because "everyone said not to!" So I just feel a need to clarify that one for the record, for whatever fresh-minted white mage is reading these posts six months from now or whatever.

Yes, lilies should be your backup after Tetra (and mitigations like Temperance or Asylum where possible), but they're still absolutely a go-to for WHM, especially for AoE heals once you have Afflatus Rapture. Despite being on the GCD.

Aside from the aforementioned deep dungeon stuff here in FFXIV, it was actually possible to spin some enemies in LotRO to avoid them hitting you, at least early on. I don't know if that still works or not, but it did at one point for certain enemies.

Yeah. The first time I joined a T9 savage group the tank proceeded to do this. I joined the party ready to learn or power through it. Little did I know that at least one other person had other ideas. Nael spun. And spun. And spun. And spun. All the way until the final phase. And then the party nuked her. If I had known it was their plan to do this I wouldn't have joined. lol But I'm guessing that's not something people want to broadcast to the world. It just sucks because it ruined my experience, and probably someone else's.
