Since we see many necromancers in the palace of the dead, I was wondering if maybe the profession actually came from Gridania, but way way back.

Since white mages tend to the living, maybe a group split fron them, seeing their goal in tending to the dead. Maybe it started with the trees getting sick from the lingering wills of the dead?

At some point that group might even be outcast from the shroud, or maybe even saw a greater goal in going out into the world and tending the dead there, since there were many wars.

And maybe after some time, even that group split up, because I can imagine those strangers tending to the dead have a lot of sterotypes to endure. Maybe even stereotypes that would be akin to the common necromancers in modern media.

And also maybe thats why some turned against the greater good and used their powers for dark arts, like Edda and Tactics Ogre Guy.

I can see the kit being pure, for the beginning and you will learn those dark arts at a later time but using it for good?

I think there is a lot of potential in our dear padjal friends, but THAT is too far fetched right now.

Since I would focus a LOT around the different cultures in burial rites, maybe the gear can have different variants, too?

Like Japanese Shrine garment for one and classic christian priest/nun attire for another

Also, the spade being a rather unconventional weapon, I am sure the devs could make interesting ornamental designs.

Im sorry, I hope my eagerness doesn't necro this thread too much.

    ...hehe.

Absolutely no interest in a necromancer concept. We already have DRK and RPR, I'm tired of hearing people clamor for yet more goth crap. That said, if as you say this could function as a sort of soft geomancer with some tinges of necro, I would be fine with that.

In fact, I think maybe just making a geomancer with a monk's spade for a weapon could get us most of the way to your concept. Or maybe taking the FFX inspiration and calling it a Sender/Priest job.

I wouldn't mind this as a job concept, actually. It has potential.
    Maybe we are onto something!

A geomancer might also work rather well! I never considered that idea, but it also ties in way better with Final Fantasy!

Since I am in love with that idea, I am extremely biased, so I would like to know what you think about it, even more if you dislike it.

So, we have seen a fair share of evil bloodthirsty edgy necromancers, yes? I would like to try a different route.

Instead of some kind of sorcerer, I imagine a necromancer more like a priest/ess, armed with a shovel.

Instead of using the dead as their puppets, they help stuck souls to find peace by comunicating and giving them a proper burial. Especially on the battlefield I like to imagine a handful of priests and nuns silently burying the lost and easing their suffering that stops them from entering a certain place in Endwalker.

The struggle of said necromancers could lie in the cultural differences of burying rites, the grief of those left alive, people envious about their ability to talk with the dead and being neutral between opposing sides of war, which can lead to conflicts in combat.

I chose the shovel, because I see it as a tool first and then a weapon. With my fantasy gone wild, I would like this shovel to not only be used for digging, but also as a catalyst for earth or life based spells, but also maybe a tool to comunicate with the buried, like a receiver for aetherial waves in the ground, or something like that.

I had this idea since I heard of bhudist monks having a shovel in their travels (correct me if this is false).

So, what will the gameplay be like? I dont care, if someone likes the idea, they could make sense of it. I'll stop for now, please tell me what you think about it. Take it apart "xD
I actually really love the idea of the concept even the shovel as the weapon. I would like to see some weapons in the game that aren't generic swords, bows, wands etc. I wish we had more hammers honestly! or even a hammer class as a tank in the future would be cool af.

Thanks! It means a lot to me!

A hammer? Like Nero? How about a melee with cast times to charge the rockethammer? xD

    Edit: Correctet my Germglish

Well the whole Geomancer shtick in FF14 revolves around exorcising spirits and the removal of spirits and barriers against them. At least Hingan Geomancy opposed to Yanxian. They furthered this story with Endwalker.
