Can we get rid of Gysahl Greens?

So there is a mechanic in place where you can make a chocobo's food it's Favorite by training them 10 times in a row using that food, then using your chocobo's "favorite" food to summon them (I am not sure if this works this way for anything but Curiel Root cause I've never used anything else, other foods might just need to be fed after summoning) gives them a buff: snip

I am... 90-ish % sure you can summon them with the curiel root. I remember doing it but it's possible that...I'm potentially remembering WRONG... or I have confused this with another game. I have no idea if this works with the other things though. I am set on going home and trying this tonight though, I'll let y'all know if it works for everything since I have that kind of time and gil.
