Why do you think that people who are optimizing don't communicate? They're doing that and trying to play well on top of it.In terms of overall success in FFXIV, I personally find that reading thoroughly and using good judgement in communication with others are as important as knowing your classes’ toolkit in battle. As such, I tend to not join parties who are approaching content from a place of which I am not yet comfortable.
Not trying to learn your class and then joining groups where everyone shares a challenge is also bad behavior. As with all things measured, the data is not evil, just how it is used.
But it is really hard to punish bad behavior with that data, especially since it can instill a culture where ... the bad behavior is held at high regard.
Also percentiles are a garbage way to represent the data, especially in environment where only a very small portion of the community is recorded anyway.
Dying to boss enrage over and over isn't something that many people enjoy. If you signed up for shared challenges and then don't contribute, it's not shocking that other people will not enjoy it.The thing is, for where this matters, that is pug groups, they are not work but play. The football matches in schools if we want to stick to the school metaphor. And excluding others because you want to win does more damage to the social circles around than everyone playing nice and playing with the fat kid, even if you might lose then.
This might be controversial but ... coffers are not that important. Competitive first races and stuff are all fine and all, I have nothing but respect for people who play them and are good at their roles, but for vast majority of the game content, nothing in it is worth hurting others feelings for. A 20 numbers higher accessory trinket people will toss out give or take 3-6 months? Just bunch of higher stats inside the computer? Pretty much worthless in the long run, but bad vibes in a video game can last for ages. I hope nobody has made others feel miserable because of some goddamn ilvl 580 rings.
I'll happily join practice groups that say need a healer, provide pointers, and wipe with them for their practice. But if the group is "farm for mount - quick clears" and a click-caster joins, that's not fair to the other 7 people.
Some people in the community seem to have created a strawman argument, where every single PF practice group is running ACT, and judging/calling out people for their poor dps. Which may happen in a tiny minority of situations, but it really isn't any different from calling out a dps who has died 7 times to every single mechanic in the fight.
My experience of PF has been that most Practice groups had 1 person sometimes explain the tactic after a wipe, but on the whole there was pretty much no talking in the runs. And anyone who left just typed "sorry gtg" or just silently left.
Pausing with the imprecise armchair psychology seems like an incredible idea.
Other than just blindly stating "but it's against the tos" which isn't good enough if you are trying to make a point.
What is the reason people should not be able to run ACT. If we discount false strawman arguments that people create about people flaming in every group
I have no issue with the use of ACT funnily enough, at least not from the perspective of looking at it in a vacuum. It's an excellent tool for reflecting and improvement. But if people are going to try and pull armchair psychology on people that may have experienced harassment or ridicule through the use of ACT then I'm just going to laugh considering people have used it as an outlet for their own sociopathic and narcissistic tendencies (Yes I too can do armchair psychology) - Which for many people is a perfectly valid reason as to why they would want to see it banned, and also probably factors largely into why they won't go beyond Stone Sky Sea.
A good portion of threads posted on this forum, and arguably some posts on this very thread go a long way in highlighting the potential for the misuse of this tool as much as it does the appropriate use.

I'm not saying it never happens. I'm saying the argument that every single group has people flaming others for their low dps is a false strawman that doesn't happen.I have no issue with the use of ACT funnily enough, at least not from the perspective of looking at it in a vacuum. Yes and that is why I take an issue with people using armchair psychology to try and chalk up the argument of this thread to "lul, insecure validation seeking people that need a therapist"
It's the equivalent of someone trying to say "we should make it so our characters are invisible to our team mates in a raid, that way my team wont see with their eyes if i repeatedly fail mechanics, so they can't flame me for failing mechanics"
