maybe heroic opportunities from eq2? or uh...lotro's thing that is basically the same...How about instead of having an automatic win button every 2 hours, we have abilities that require skill or collaboration or something, and put them on a shorter cooldown too.
Also: don't 2 hour cooldowns just make fights even less strategic? After all, if people have the option of 2 hours, then game designers have to implement content which factor in the use of 2 hours abilities. This then means that the fights cannot be done efficiently without 2 hours, rendering any other strategies useless.
is that what battle regimens are I've never ever used one.

I'll like to see a 2h abitity. Most of them on ffxi were pretty nice. And maybe a second tier of 2h when you reach rank 50.
Yes. What he saidHow about instead of having an automatic win button every 2 hours, we have abilities that require skill or collaboration or something, and put them on a shorter cooldown too.

If my 2 hour is A transformation into a raging demon beast that brings doom and destruction to its surroundings, one-shotting all foes for 10 mins then yes. If my 2 hour is a increase in attack for 10 seconds then NO!
LOL at anyone attempting to say 2hr abilities are useless. Some are too disgustingly powerful in a way.No. 2hr abilities(most) were for the most part useless. All were extremely underpowered for an ability that is on a 2hr cooldown. To actually have an ability thats on a 2hr cooldown and be worth it most would then say "Its too overpowered!"
I would prefer each job(when they are added) getting a 30min cd ability that is actually useful.
edit: They also lasted about 20 seconds? 30 at most for some jobs. It was a horrible way to implement an ability overall. In the end they just were used for brief fun every 2hrs.
The whole reason for 2hr was the intent of the ace in the sleeve. Once you use it, it was gone, no coffee break was going to make it reappear.
Some BC battles tactics 100% relied on 2hr abilities. It really was the ace in a hole. That's why it's 2hrs!
If a 2hr ability was a 10 minute ability or a 1/2hr ability, then they wouldn't be very useful or they would have to make every fight more stronger, if they have to account for cheat abilities like that.
Well it's a design plan. I rather have it then not, it gives people a chance to turn hopeless situation into a winning situation.
I don't mind samurais busting out massive back to back damage, I don't mind redmages that can cast sleepga over and over to save their rears. I don't mind summoners doing 3 astro flows. Because it's 2hrs. If it works, congratulations, if it fails, too bad, no retries.
Battle script scenario writers don't need to take into account those abilities. It's kind of like "we want to make it challenging, but we'll throw a bone to anyone who's frustrated".

The way the game is now the most challenging thing you'd possibly ever need a 2hr for would be trying to solo a leve thats way above your level on a rating of 2-5 stars. SE made this game too easy to need to rely on a "Oh shit" ability that has a 2hr cooldown.2hr abilities in XI were basically a special move that your job was given from the beginning. The benefits from the ability were so great that it took 2 hours before you could use it again. I am personally for a 2hr it wil help distinguish classes better. But I wanna know what every one thinks about it. So YES if you agree, and if NO explain why?
With that said, no thanks! Unless ofcourse SE ups the difficulty then Yes please!

Some of them where useful others where crap, Dancer and Paladin where pretty useful to me in certain fights but it needs to less than two hours if they where introduced.
2 hour ability was something for ffxi, it fit and was designed to work with that battle/strategy/game. If you just take parts of FFXI and stick them to FFXIV it wont work.
"Cooler", more useful abilities are welcome. Game mechanics from an old game (that I loved when I played) is not welcome here...

I don't see why not.
FFXIV is still FFXI's sequel, so there's really no reason to avoid simply porting some defining features from one game to the other. You know, like in any sequel...
That's good, since no 2 hour ability has ever been an automatic win button. Ain't that great?![]()

If only, however they were adamant on making it different from XI instead of even a spiritual successor.I don't see why not.

Topic itself:
2hrs were what actually defined certain jobs especially playing into certain tactics, e.g:
PLD's invincible
COR's wildcard
BRD's Soulvoice
DRK's Blood Weapon
SMN's Astral Flow (especially Odin/Alexander.)
and so on.
You can't make class uniqueness in a FF type of MMO without some kind trump card ability that can't be spammed. Even the "useless" ones had a use and were only seen as useless because people didn't understand how to put it into play, e.g PUP's overdrive.
