I'm more curious about this - for the skills we gain from the other two classes. Are they going to be limited to certain skills we can choose from, such as it is now, you can only select a couple of skills per class. Or are we going to have more access to those two classes' abilities since its limited to the two?

I'd guess anything that's not exclusive to the class (and thus available for cross-classing currently).

The whole purpose of the job system is specialisation. This means cutting back the number of options available to you - restricting which classes you can take extra abilities from, but making sure that the ones you can still access have abilities useful to your new JOB. If you don't like the restrictions that are being imposed on you (which aren't really restrictions seen as it's been designed that this will BE TO THE BENEFIT OF YOUR JOB'S SPECIALISATION) then simply UNEQUIP YOUR JOB STONE and stop complaining before you've played it.

As a THM I have access to all my usual abilities and spells, so I can cure and cast aero and do whatever I want.

If I choose to equip my Black Mage job stone, I lose this access and instead get access to abilities which are really geared to helping my Black Mage in a specialised manner - Featherfoot for MP restore, Second Wind for instant HP restore, Decoy to evade for when you inevitably pull hate with a big Burst and Quelling Strike and Chameleon to reduce the enmity from all my massive nukes.

There's even the perfect amount of abilities. The cross-class actions aren't suppose to give me more nukes or access to cures, they are suppose to compliment my abilities as a specialised Black Mage. And they do. Look at that - it's perfect, MP and enmity management, OMFG, it's like they've actually had this all planned out or something!!

Not that I have any issue with it/this/jobs being less flexible more singular

Ah, but will facing north-by-northeast at 2:45 a.m. while the moon is a waning crescent result in a 27% increase in your chances to synthesize HQ mythril ingots!? That is real the question! ~Fernehalwes~

That's exactly what jobs are in this game. Did you expect actual new classes to play, and not just extensions of the ones we already have?

The whole point of jobs seems to be for people to learn to utilize their abilities and work together. I remember someone asking "Why invite a DD who can't raise?" Well..its simple. Don't die, pay attention. The role of a DD should be just that...to deal damage. Simple. Not to raise and watch peoples HP. Also don't take hate from the tank and you'll be fine. If you are concerned that much about raise and are dying that much there is always Raise items from GC.

Welcome to hard mode hehe finally ^_^

Does no one know about the grand company items that raise people? I'd take a DD with those over a brd that even did 90% of that DD's dps any day of the week.

There is no raise issue. The average party will have 2 con, whether they are 2 whm or 1whm 1 con, those 2 will account for 3-4 raises. All parties will have a tank, so theres another raise, and most parties will bring a brd for buffs, so theres another raise. If you can't succeed with 5-6 raises out of an 8 person party, you fail. And that's before bringing out the grand company raise items

Basing your PT setup upon how many times you will be able to raise people who have died (aka failed) doesn't sound like a very good idea.

If everyone plays their roles in an encounter well enough there shouldn't be in any need for casting Raise in the first place.
Even if accidents do strikes, if you need to use more then 2-3 raises during a fight on a regular basis, then I'd question that perhaps you have issues with your tactics or setup.
