A bit off-topic sorry, but if we are talking names, is Azem based on anything or is that name a mystery/more of a fantasy name like "Venat"?

I always assumed it was related to the word "azimuth" - the etymology of which originates in the Arabic word as-sumūt, meaning "the directions" or "the paths". Azimuth is often used in navigation to express direction, and it fits nicely into the idea of the seat of Azem being a traveler. Not to mention that azimuth is also used to describe the sun's position in the sky.

Or maybe they started with Azeyma, and then just fit Azim and Azem both together with it?

There is also the word Azeem from the Arabic language being that it means "Protector, Defender" which is maybe the reason why SE chose this name since the meaning does reflect the role of Azem being a Protector/Defender of the Star.

Azem's actions, from the current Azem that became WoL and Venat, both reflected this meaning by how they always rush into danger to protect the people of the world while exploring the world.

There is also the word Azeem from the Arabic language being that it means "Protector, Defender" which is maybe the reason why SE chose this name since the meaning does reflect the role of Azem being a Protector/Defender of the Star.

Both possibilities sound very fitting. Regardless of whether one (or none) is true I think I'd like to adopt both. I like the duality of them. The second embodies something we do for others: help them, protect them. The first one embodies something we do for ourselves: travelling, adventure. I like the idea that we have a name that encapsulates both aspects of our personality and that also gives room for our own ambitions/interests instead of only being other people's WoL. (I like being a WoL in the sense of helping/protecting others but evidently we are more than that and also exist as an individual person behind that role. So it's nice to have a name that reflects both: the "public" and the "personal".)

I don't think they'll ever reveal Azem's true name for the same reason they'll never show Azem's design: they want to leave it up to each player's imagination.

Given the sun theme Azem has though, Apollo or Eos would work (and Artemis and Themis show they don't need to be the same gender as the original Greek god). Eos is already taken by the SCH fairy though.

There are some who think of the name "Helios" because of being the sun deity in Greek mythology. Helios' epithets like "Hyperion" - "the one above" or "Phaethon" - "the shining" are also possible .
Possible is also "Sol" or "Apollo" as Latin use seems to be not strange with the Ancients. Well, the etymology offers alot that any of them that I mentioned could be the one.

About the possible name of the female Azem, I don't know. Need to look up about it.

I mean it is a little late at this point because we can certainly narrow it down in a pretty good way right now. We got Artemis, Athena, Haphaestus, Hades. I am seriously feeling like it is Apollo.

Design wise, SE already established in lore that our character has the exact appearance of Azem as mentioned by Emet in Endwalker. The only difference is that our personality is different from Azem and our soul is sundered.

I am assume from this lore that the more complete a sunder person is, the more closer they are to their appearance when not sundered.

That aside, the fact Azem is self aware about WoL as his future self can have many implications in Season 2.

While WoL only recently got Azem's soul crystal story wise due to not even a year has past since 2.0 begin from story point of view, I feel the Azem Soul Crystal is open to the opportunity of becoming a Job Soul Crystal later that focus on using Azem's powers beyond just summoning fragments of Azem to defeat the Final Boss in a Trial boss fight.

I honestly, won't be surprised if they made the Azem job the Noctis/Yozora job since we got a taste of it when fighting Venat and her limit break is literally Legacy of the Lucii.

Noctis/Yozora job will also be a fitting job for Azem considering it may also explain why WoL can master any job so easily due to how Azem was a master of all weapon times in his/her own fighting style like Venat.

I take affront to the "WoL looks like Azem" thing because... Ancient are Hyur... we literally haven't seen an Ancient with any of the other races traits. And one could say "well, remove the pointy ears or animal traits and that's how Azem looks" but... Hroth... Also, the foremost 2 people that recognized/confused WoL with Azem (Emet and Hythlodaeus) were both experts in seeing souls, and indeed they recognized the WoL due to the color of their soul and not the shape of their body (which they didn't even see clearly until Emet beefs up your aether). Themis' "you look familiar..." comment comes out of nowhere unless he's actually seeing our soul, too

However, I feel it's a moot point because we're unlikely to ever SEE Azem. Since their gender depends on the WoL's they'd have to either: make a custom model that replicates most of the PC's model while putting it in an Ancient body and plop some Hyuran ears; make two models (one male, one female) and have it change according to the WoL's (something similar was done for Fray in the DRK quests, but Fray wasn't voiced); leave Azem completely non-descript and masked, like one of the Amaurotine shades; or add some "yeah, the Ancients were also very racially diverse, we just didn't show any of that in Elpis because... racism... yeah, that..."

If it is visual recognition, Hrothgar could be more in the vein of "you look uncannily like Azem considering you're a cat". But yes, more likely that they're recognising us by our aether. I don't remember exactly what was said, though.

Themis could have seen us while we were in Elpis the first time, depending on the timing of these incidents, or maybe there's something just unplaceably Azemish about us even if you can't actually see souls.
