excuse my choice of words, but what the flying f*ck does that have to do with that? jesus christ, god forbid "that game" has something that'd be nice to have in xiv, we can't have that now, can we? because wow bad
people are complaining about monetization in here.. my word, have to buy a fantasia for a new face.. and then someone brings up "can do it for free in WoW"
thats nice and all, but they do a TON of things badly in WoW, as well as monetizing the crap out of every last thing they can, mounts for instance, then they also tie a mount to a 6 month sub, pretty much wasting time and money.
does Wow do some things well? of course they do. like player housing.. oh wait, scratch that... just very tired of the whole "well WoW does this"
point being, two different philosophies, the FFxiv devs played it back in the day, took some good direction on what to do after the trainwreck that was 1.0
I am all for getting the things that work , if they can still find something. but complaining about a couple dollars to change something like your face? unless you do it weekly.. why is that an issue?
Someone doesn't realize Hrothgar hair is tied to the head which you can't change once you create it, only the fur etc. You're about 2 1/2 years behind.
"I was out of the frying pan and into the freezer, I thought I was going to die here."
They've gone into detail about why this had to be done in the way it was done. If you're so mired in this paranoid delusion that the devs are secretly evil and doing everything they can to nickel and dime their players, then you need to get out more. Play a different game, you'll swiftly find out what playing a game run by devs that actually DON'T care about anything but bilking people for their money feels like.
Most MMO devs are RIDICULOUSLY opaque about their reasons for doing things, if not outright combative with their player base. Their reasoning remains forever arcane, and their practices often outright predatory.
Older characters in XIV were designed in a way that prevents them from adding additional customizations to existing face shapes. This is in no small part, connected to the reasons why we still don't have larger inventories. It's a memory limitation.
What Did i say is A FACTS i never mention Dev intentions At all check what i wrote before writing thisThey've gone into detail about why this had to be done in the way it was done. As long as we get Hilda's, Lyse's & Hythlodaeus' hair & not more short spikey rpg anime hero hairstyles, I'd welcome an updated character creator with meaningful updates- similar to the options Viera have & more that people have asked for-
Such as:
Spots or darkened ear tips & tails for miqo'te (both genders)
Fangs for Au Ra & Seeker of sun Miqote
Interchangaeble horns for Au RA not locked to faces
New horns for Au Ra
2-3 new improved faces for each race
2-3 wearable face paint options instead of only being able to wear 1
New hair colours, eye colours & make-up colours
Half Elezen option for both Hyur & Elezen (Hyur get elezen ears & Elezen get human ears)
Garlean 3rd eye for half-Elezen & Hyur
New body models that have actual meat on them (like 2B butt without the leggings) & chest hair for males
Battle voice preview
Racial Run/ Walk preview
Thicker eyelashes for all faces
Full facial hair for male races with the new faces
I'd buy a fantasia to have the things I've requested for years, so yes I am 100% okay with whatever SE does so long as character creator gets improvement.
I see no problem so long as it's implemented with care & not rushed like Female Viera & Male Hrothgar were
Luckily I have 2 Fantasias on all my characters, the original one given away (for reasons I no longer clearly recall, something to do with game disruption I believe) and the second one they accidentally granted shortly after and decided not to remove .. I'm good.
One of my characters has the moustache so he already has facial hair!
which is a valid point
has literally nothing to do with the point the poster made and you're using that and the earlier thing you said to immediately try to shut it down because 'wow bad'
nothing wrong with taking a look at what other games have to offer and possibly copy it? I guess XIV should go back to ho-
oh so copying some things is ok, but not things like free race/gender/face changes, which would hugely benefit the playerbase, be it indecisive players, RPers and whatnot, because SE would lose money, that's not ok? why not simply make it cost gil instead?point being, two different philosophies, the FFxiv devs played it back in the day, took some good direction on what to do after the trainwreck that was 1.0

I'd be all about being able to make major changes to characters outside of race/clan and gender using gil. That would give people more liberty to make changes they want without consideration for RL money and would also take a load of gil out of circulation P.D.Q.
