Waist items gone, where's the gil I spent on them?

Told by who? announcement in game? BIG notice onthe launcher? Unlike you, I don't spend my days onthe forums. I spend my gaming time, *gasps* gaming*. Would have been nice to have an ingame mail about it.

Among other things, the "NEWS" links in the launcher where they put in various notices about upcoming planned changes; they announced it several times, including here back in September. Also in the Digital Fanfest and the Live Letter from the Producer streams, but those are things you sort of need to go seek out; in contrast the news links are right in the launcher every time you start the game.

(And, of course, they posted the full patch notes for Endwalker in the same news links -- AND with a big banner in the launcher, too.)

I grant there's a lot of those news links and it's easy to overlook things in them because some of them are just "there's going to be maintenance at this time, don't schedule a Ceremony of Eternal Bonding during it" or "We've banned <X> number of gil-seller bots this week", but they do make changes -- sometimes sweeping ones -- in expansion releases, so especially in the months leading up to an expansion it's worth checking the news links periodically. If the launcher link interface feels too cluttered to you, you can always hit up the Lodestone and look at the various news links there to see the same articles they post in the launcher NEWS links.

If it's any consolation, as others have noted, Exarchic belts would be sort of useless now *anyway* post-Endwalker even if they hadn't gotten rid of belts entirely, since they're only i510 gear, and you can get better gear almost immediately upon starting Endwalker. So your options with the old belts upon starting Endwalker would be to sell them to an NPC, desynth them for materials, or turn them in to your Grand Company for company seals. Luckily, all those options do still exist even now; just fetch the belts back from the Calamity Salvager and you can sell them to an NPC for gil, desynth them for materials, or turn them in to your Grand Company for company seals.

Yes, I was upset. Still am frankly. Desynthing a 100k belt, isn't really compensation, and i've had those belts for a fairly long time. As for my 'obnoxious tone', not everyone plays a game to 'read all about it' many, if not most people, play a game, to you know, play the game, the only thing they are interested in, is if they can log in and get some game time. That's what I do. I launch the launcher, put my username and password in, hit login, and play, in that order. I don't read every little blurb in the launcher because all I ever see is blah blah rmt accounts banned, or congestion apologies. I never saw any notice (because I generally don't look there, as my intent is to get into the game). Perhaps it was in the launcher news. I never saw it because I never looked. I log in to play, not read a bunch of article spam. Was I annoyed? YES, and my 'tone' (btw thanks for tone policing) def reflected my annoyance. But, now I know. And now I know the gil I spent was utterly wasted for no real reason as far as I can see.

Yes, waist items were pointless, they were invisible on your character, a waste of inventory space, and they reassigned the 35 slots to weapons if you haven't noticed.

However are you expecting them to tell you if you can't be bothered to read.

I don't get it. As you said yourself, you had used these belt for a "fairly long time". So why do you want a compensation when you already got your moneys worth from them? Not even talking about how all your precious belts would be useless at around what? Level 85? Would you then also demand a compensation because you spent so much Gil on them? And I don't understand how you can be so dense and think that "Oh, I don't inform myself about this game, I just play it" is a viable excuse for anything?

never saw it in the launcher, and I don't do that other stuff you mentioned. I don't watch fanfest, or go to fanfests, I don't do producer live letters, I didn't have a forum account till today, and haven't even read the forums or anything on them until today. So no, I was NOT aware of it. I've never seen it in loadstone (prolly missed it as I was likely looking for other things and not looking for 'news'). And frankly, I launch the launcher, and start the game, because that's all I AM interested in doing. Not spending time reading blah bl;ah banned x rmt blah blah etc. Because that is literally the ONLY garbage I see in that section. So, sorry I wasn't up to date because I play a game instead of read about it.

I mean, if you quite purposefully cut yourself off from every single method of communication the devs have to let players know about important developments, then you can’t really complain about those developments happening without you knowing about it.

They’re not going to fly the entire patch notes in a neon banner across your screen (quite frankly they do more than enough banner-flying as it is). It’s up to you to keep yourself informed.

So tell me, how many players do you think have a forum account vs how many players are in game? My experience is that those on the forums, are about 1/10th (or less) of the actual game population. I don't pay attention to fanfest stuff, because I don't have the bandwidth to stream that kind of stuff. I can't even play youtube videos on their lowest settings. I never saw anything in loadstone, because the only time I ever go in that direction, is to log into the mog station to buy clothes or mounts etc. I never noticed anything on the launcher, and admittedly, that is likely my fault for not looking, but after seeing nothing for months on end except the latest rmt accounts getting banned, one tends to stop looking. So say what you will, but in my experience, most gamers never follow the games news that much. I'll make sure in the future, that I will so I won't be caught off guard with future changes. I'm still annoyed. But, my fault I guess for not having my nose out sniffing up the changes. Nuff said. I won't make the same mistake inthe future.
