You obviously know nothing about the global chip shortage. It essentially is an "outage." That's how bad it really is. Not to mention the effects the pandemic has on supply chains. It's a double problem; first the semi-conductor shortage then Covid screwing over supply lines. No one is happy with the queue times, but people can be understanding because they know how hard it is to get server hardware. It isn't a case of them needing a couple servers either, they need hundreds as each world needs tens of server machines.

Do you... do you think they went down to Best Buy and purchased the server racks the weekend before New World went live? What do you think they've been doing closed alphas, betas, and internal testing of the game on over the last four years?

Do you think they had all the servers primed and ready to go several years in advance?

Look, you can absolutely blame certain things about queue issues on Square Enix, like the 2002 and other errors giving you a limited window to reconnect or lose your spot in queue.

But the problem isn't so simple as to say "pay more for servers!!!"

There really is a chip shortage going on right now. Square can't just spend buy any old server, they have to provision one that meets the requirements of the game with whatever quality requirements they have to ensure stable connections. Once that is done, they then have to configure the server, test it, then deploy it.

Keep in mind they've been planning on launching a new data Centre in 6.1. They even noted in Feb that the silicon crunch has affected their plans for that deployment

It is not as simple as just throwing money at it. Even if it SAS just that simple, they'd have to make sure it was a responsible business expense.

New world that has had the most ridiculous bugs ever seen in a newly launched mmo , ones so bad they had to disable player access to parts of the game because it was so broken?

They certainly had them secured and in use as development and infrastructure hardware, yes. That's generally what you do if you are serious about a major MMO launch. Getting those things up and running as a harmonious whole is an extremely non-trivial undertaking.

Maybe they could see if Blizzard is willing to sell any of their server racks, since they aren't seeing as much use from them these days.

Right. So in the time Amazon spent setting up servers. Corporate SE in all it's historical glory of being a shitty company, didn't bother to increase funding for this game and expand.

So New World gets a pass because they could use the vast AWS system that many have access to because the network is so huge , yet still gets its own log in issues and was made so hilariously poorly that its lost a vast amount of its playerbase
