Stop asking for a playtime cap; you don't know what you're doing

That's not what the suggestion is intended for. The 12 hour cap suggestion is to kick AFK bypassers and bots. There's an average of 2000 players AFK right now in Leviathan, probably the same in other worlds. That 2 hour long 4k queue you see in your login screen at peak time? It could be a 1 hour 2k queue at peak time if AFK bypassers and bots were forcibly purged.

It's really not rocket biology science.

There should be other ways to deal with the AFK botters and bypassers that don't involve actively punishing the entire playerbase with a playtime cap. SE should be taking a harder stance against that group specifically.

Same with the RMT'ers. If the gil sellers were all purged from the servers, that would open a metric ton of spots too.

TLDR: What you're saying is technically correct, I just don't agree with the method of punishing the entire playerbase to target a minority of players. The players committing the offense should be the ones punished.

I have to say, I've come to the forums for years (usually just to read all of the hyperbole arguing), but it's been a hot minute since I've seen such an asinine suggestion.

And some of the responses in here are disgusting. Like the dude telling people to go outside and better their communities. Or the constant crapping on people who completed MSQ or have more time than you.

I'm retired due to military service, and just happen to have the time to play XIV at random hours due to this. It isn't my fault, or anyone else's, that your life doesn't make it as feasible to play video games at hours you want to. I get it, but at the same time, a lot of you made life choices to be in those positions, and are now lashing out at other people for having the time. As others have said, this is an issue with SE and SE alone. Turning your aim at the people that have time to play and saying they should be limited is absolutely ludicrous. We all pay the same sub fee....and whether or not we get on isn't dictated by some magic number SE only gives the selected few players....we're just able to start playing before the servers implode.

If the shoe were on the other foot, you all wouldn't have anything to say, because you'd be happily playing, completing your MSQ, and the like. So stop trying to punish other paying customers (like yourself) because SE can't get their server crap together. Like how, for instance, there's more servers in Japan than any other region, and NONE of them are character locked generally aside from Tonberry. I don't see why it's impossible to merge a few servers in the JP region and move some servers to the NA or EU side of things to help out. No, instead of coming up with logical solutions, lets ask SE to screw over the players who don't have a 2 hour window to play because they've sorted their life out to be able to play when they want.

Seeing the forums the past few days has soured my views on the community a bit. We all tout that the community in XIV is SO much better than WoW's, and yet, the forums right now, don't look much different than WoW's forums. And it isn't the legitimate complaints I'm talking about either. It's all the name calling, vitriol, and other garbage people deem appropriate to sling at one another cause they're mad they can't play a video game. Lol.

Except the first three days of early access I *was actively playing* for roughly 18 hours each day. I am 99% sure I was not the only one. You can bet I'd be *beyond* apoplectic if I could only play 12 hours then could not for another 12 hours when I was burning through the MSQ. I took PTO for the first 10 days of the expansion: who are you to dictate what I can use my PTO for?

except you are taking away game time. Your game time is no more important than anyone else’s. Your solution should never be detrimental to someone else who is doing absolutely nothing wrong outside of “playing to much” according to some people.

It's selfish in regards that putting a cap does absolutely nothing. The peak times will still have ridiculous queues. Instead all it would accomplish is anger people more.

No one should be forced to share something they paid money for.

I've been through PLENTY of crap MMO and MMO expansion launches. Been unable to play plenty of times. Etc. And never once have I gone and stomped my feet like people here are.

I get some people can't get on because they have kids, jobs, a spouse, whatever. But as I said before, your life variables are your issue to juggle. Not mine. And it shouldn't be anyone else's problem either.

So yes, it IS selfish to say that a company should limit other people's play time because it's unfair to you. Blows my mind.

Interesting, so it's "taking away game time" for one group but not the other. And just the one solution is "detrimental" to a group of people who are "doing absolutely nothing wrong".

I don't know, both scenarios seem to be the same to me, just one option actually gives others a chance to play the video game entertainment whereas the other continues to lock people out (as we're already seeing happen).
