Viera and Hrothgar Megathread

If they're not going to fix whatever about female Viera's heads makes it hard to add the modern aesthetics, then I wish they would focus on developing Viera and Hrothgar exclusive hairstyles like they said they were two years ago to bring the two races up to parity with everyone else in customization choices, instead of releasing new hairstyles for everyone else who have a huge amount to choose from already.

Personally, I only like one of the new options, and as most people say the Karen hair is such a weird choice if they were prioritizing it based off requests because I've never seen or heard anyone say they want Karen hair but I think that had more to do with the fact it was easy.

At this point, seeing the quality of the ported hairs, I'd probably only want the rest of the purchasable hairs ported, and a select few unlockable ones (that actually look good), then just give viera more racial specific hairs. If they'd even do that...

The only ports that look bad to me are the old styles. And that's simply because they're old and don't match the quality of Viera models.

Looking back at the comments they've said, I think that Viera heads are NOW compatible with "future hairstyles" even if they don't want to/ don't have time to go back and fix up all the old ones to make them work. In doing this, I think they dropped the idea of them getting unique hair altogether after realizing it's extra time and effort making new HQ hair for only 1 race when people will just end up asking for all the new shared hair regardless.

IDK, it will be easier to make sense of once we actually get a new shared hairstyle in EW. My guess is that all new hair going forward will work for Viera, so by 7.0 Viera will have "8 new hairstyles" assuming we get the same number as ShB did. Boom, they will always have far less hair than base races if SE doesn't go back to retro fit past ones, but at least SE doesn't have to make 12-16 new hairstyles an expac just to give 1 race something.

Hrothgar ... I got no clue. There's not even a system in place in the game to allow you to swap faces without a potion and Hrothgar hairstyle stuff extends to their face feature options, and I dare not even entertain the thought of them making shared hair work.
Would be funny if they made a new head that's compatible with shared hair as their way of resolving this, like their stubby resolution. 6.1 is gonna be interesting.

I absolutely agree! I have been saying this from the beginning. Not EVERY hairstyle needs to be unisex. It makes them unoriginal, boring and like you said not feminine enough for females and not masculine enough for males. I miss the ARR/HW days where each gender got their own new hairstyles. This unisex crap annoys the hell out of me. Yes there are SOME hairstyles that can be unisex, but that shouldn't be the norm.

I don't trust them at this point. 2 years and all we got are 6-7 hairstyles that are very lackluster/boring considering the dozens of choices they have (minus the lightning hairstyle, that one looks great on Viera) I think what I'm confused with is if they have 'fixed' their head models to include new and previous hairstyles, why cant we get most (if not all) of the previous hairstyles for our characters? I don't get what's stopping them? It's not like they are making new hairstyles, just give us all the unlockable ones every other race has access to.

Creating viera & hrothgar specific hairstyles is something I've always agreed with- I knew that if the hairstyles other races have were ported- most would look subpar if not worse- because the hairstyles weren't adjusted to fit every race better- Example: If there are ear gaps for a race that has ears, it isn't adjusted to look more aesthetically pleasing on Miqo'te or Viera so they're stuck with weird ear gaps in hairstyles originally meant for a race that had human-like ears (elezen, Lalafell & Hyur)

The only thing I could see fixing the dilemma with Viera is giving them Miqo'te specific hairstyles (Y'sthola's hair for example) A race that already has ears atop their heads, so some of the hairstyles look better on them than other races because of that detail
Either that or a new hairstyle contest with stricter guidelines. There are way more people now so I could see many great entries being submitted & winning due to actual appeal in the hair, rather than the art style this time.

I don't want new racespecific styles at the cost of hairs that are added for everyone else. The whole point of running certain content is the rewards, and if the reward is a hairstyle I will never be able to use, then why should I run it at all (besides completion)? And the hairstyles that can be bought on mogstation should be added to viera regardless of racespecific hairstyles coming or not (which they won't).

Strange seeing people have such unwarranted faith in the "community" voting their way.
I can guarantee that if they do another contest right now, a well drawn Deku like style would make the cut because "OMG, my MNK could be Deku! UNITED STATES OF SMAAASSSH!!!". Same for Demon Slayer boys and so on, there's a reason so many anime Protags have short hair yet can still look different, you can make some crazy non-sense styles that look iconic and eye catching to people without them being long hair.

New hair is sparse because SE doesn't sell you hairstyles. Hairstyles are used as content rewards, to give people something to sell/ buy/ grind for. As such, we only get them when there's something new to do.
Viera don't really need hair to be designed just for them any more than Miqote do. Not everything looks good on Miqote, people don't flip out about it because they still get everything regardless.

Make the races right the first time or not at all should've been what they did. But if people are happy with incomplete work then let them be happy. Personally I'd rather these 3 races not be limited regardless if I personally wouldn't be caught dead playing one. But I'd rather my game not be crap ya know.
