Yeah you are real cool buddy.
Because you have the whole story.
Like I said... credit to the internet.
It was in fact a life or death emergency for your information and I posted that as I say in that post simply to get the GM's attention faster. I don't know if that tactic worked or not, I certainly wouldn't recommend it to anyone else. But I was in a desperate situation where I felt I had to do whatever I could to act. (which was obviously limited by my only relation to this person being as a fellow player in an online game).
Fortunately the GM's did respond to me in time. They called the police. For everyone who says the GM's in this game do nothing, they are wrong. I didn't have a whole lot of faith in them, but they came through. I could care less about what you think, and I risked getting banned on a game that I have played and enjoyed since beta. People are what are really important, not characters in a game or "forum reputations". This is just a trivial video game, and I'm glad to see that there are real human beings working for SE customer support who actually have the capacity for human empathy.
Unlike hopeless internet trolls like yourself, who contribute nothing and are just a drain on this community. Posting idiotic meme's on the internet, and screenshotting any little piece of drama you can find so that you can somehow give yourself whatever minor ego boost that manages to give you by regurgitating it at the first opportune moment. Oh man, you must feel so smart, so accomplished. What a talent you possess.
Is this really your life? This is really what you do with your time?
I play this game to have fun, I post on this forum because this game is a passion for me and I care about its development. Unlike you I don't relish in such drama, this was an extremely unfortunate incident which I certainly never foresaw or expected from my interactions in an online video game. It wasn't something I wanted, but when faced with it I had no choice as a sensible human being but to act. You having no insight come here and attempt to ridicule me based on it, I don't know why. Perhaps we had a disagreement about this video game in the past? So you felt the need to screenshot that and put it in your forum trolling ammunition folder.
I feel completely justified in what I did, if I offended you with some minor profanity I apologize, but the end result justified the means. To think that you think that is somehow an attack on XI players. I don't know what "identity" you ascribe to, WoW-tard or 4chan troll or whatever. But if you are a representation of that community, I'll take my XI elitists any day. We may be passionate about the game, but at least we aren't senseless mindless trolls who would trounce all over people's real life emotions and troubles to get a cheap laugh, so crass and recklessly ignorant that you would only find it here... on an anonymous trivial internet forum.

I know... But no one "enjoys" waiting hours for a party to start
It Alienates the players who only have a couple hours after they get off work
FFXI vets are by far some of the most helpful people in FFXIV
There are some who are loud and pretentious but the same can be said for any demographic
Unfortunately... from a business standpoint... you don't want FFXI players to be the majority on a server... because that means you are way less than a million subs total.
Its such a mixed boat... on one hand, I want SE to make a game that completely caters to my play style... nothing wrong with that
On the other I do think they should be allowed to make a game that they think will bring in tons of people... they aren't doing this for kicks, ya know?
And that's where I think the small minority of FFXI vets that are douchebags really give the whole group a bad name....
This small subset that thinks SE should make every aspect of the game to appease them because they've been playing SE MMO's for 8 years
when the truth is... in business... more effort always goes into attracting new customers
SE is doing both. As they should. They are in the entertainment business, and are selling subscriptions. So customer loyalty is as important as new business.
I don't see FFXI players demanding "every aspect be like XI" simply that we be allowed to enjoy the same things we did in XI, I don't see anything wrong with that. FFXI was a different kind of MMO, and it was very popular with a lot of people. I doubt that FFXIV would have sold as many copies at launch as it did without the positive experience so many people had with FFXI.
But this thread isn't about that. This thread is about the community that FFXI fostered, one which FFXI veterans feel was pretty unique to that game. Some disagree, but as someone who has played a lot of MMO's (and enjoyed more than just FFXI) to say that there is not a stark difference between the community found in FFXI in 2002-2005, and WoW for example at anytime in its existence would be pretty hard to argue.
I don't know if it was the game itself, or the fans that made it that way. That could be debated endlessly, but I know that I feel very lucky to have found so many people who played FFXI on Selbina. As they have made a very positive impact on my enjoyment of this game which I would not be playing without Selbina's community.
So in my opinion the game may have made us that way, and if so Kudos to SE for managing to accomplish such a feat of creating close knit communities in what is generally a cesspool, describing the internet community at large (at least the trivial, entertainment community side). But this game was no FFXI at launch, so I would have to say it is possible to recapture some of that community feeling just by finding others who once shared it.

I don't understand. I took Murugan's post as "if it takes x amount of time to get a group for something, you're most likely to be able to get a group for it on Selbina as players on that server will stick around the longest while the party forms." I'm new to the game, so I don't personally know if Selbina players are actually more patient, but thats how I understood his comment. Wouldn't the alternative be that you wouldn't be able to form a group at all? I don't think he was saying that he preferred that it take hours to get a group formed.
No, it is about being considerate.
Whether you play 2 hours, or 6-8, what always defined expectation in XI (and there were people who played XI on tight schedules that did not allow them marathon sessions), you should be considerate of the other people in the group who also took their time to form and go out there.
Most people I have met on Selbina, especially but not only those who came from FFXI exhibit that type of considerate attitude towards others. It makes a world of difference in playing with others, and might be why so many non-FFXI players in other MMO's today seem to gravitate away from grouping and towards soloing. Which is a real shame, because that is never how I think MMO's were envisioned to be played.
You are a child.
edit: unnecessary insult to children. You have serious issues buddy. Why do you even care?
Not that the judgement of someone like you should matter to anyone but:
You are the pathetic one here. Me and my shell are positive influences on this community. We have fun playing together, we are good at this game, and we reach out to and are involved with the community on Selbina. There was an incident with an individual who had real life problems and that unfortunately evolved into the incident you feel the need to troll me based on even though any normal person would not have gone to the lengths to screenshot a thread that was deleted only minutes after it was created just so they could use it against someone in a forum for a video game.
It had nothing to do with this game, or our shell, or me personally. It only happened by chance to play out via in-game communication and because of that I had to involve the GM's because unlike you I am a person who isn't a total sociopathic monster just because I happen to be on the internet.
But I'm sure you will just laugh at this whole episode and post another stupid meme, and for that I feel sorry for you. You are a pitiful excuse for a human being. My condolences to your mother.
