They currently hold your place in line but only for a short time. I've logged in numerous times after a server error and got my spot back. Extending that time a bit wouldn't be a bad thing in my opinion but certainly addressing the error's themselves would be the best.

Today I waited 3 hours, logged in for all of 5 seconds before getting a disconnect. Back to the end of the line for me. [:
Nah, a grace period is a TERRIBLE idea.
Also, I'd like to add, this is more like square randomly chose me, TOOK my wallet, threw it out the door and demanded I return to the end of the queue. My eyes cannot possibly roll fast enough to keep up with the hoops you're jumping through to try to justify this.

I waited 3-4 hours today. Got into the game and was doing a story mission. Got DC'ed with a 9002 error. Immediately logged back in. Placed in a 2,974 que.
I get that congested servers were anticipated. But to be logged out, and relog less than 30 seconds later and be placed at the back of the line is just insane. It needs to be fixed.
This isn't always the case. I got DC'ed with a 9002 error when in game. I was kicked to the title screen and immediately logged back in. I was placed in a 2,974 que despite logging back in less than a minute after I was DC'edThey currently hold your place in line but only for a short time. Quick update to this, waited the length of the Q a second time, kicked out as soon as I get in again lol. Guess I'm just not playing tonight.Today I waited 3 hours, logged in for all of 5 seconds before getting a disconnect. Back to the end of the line for me. [:

Genuinely baffled by this argumentDoing something like that however would slow the queue progress down to be even slower than it is now. It sucks to have to wait in queue to log back in but that spot that opened when you got disconnected was immediately occupied by someone that had already been waiting in queue before then.
Why should the person in queue get higher priority than the person who was literally already online? If I want in a three hour long queue and I get DCd right now, I am done for the night, and that sucks. Badly. The queue system itself is already busted enough thanks to all the errors, and frankly part of the problem is that the QUEUE also doesn't have a long enough grace period so people who error out are randomly getting kicked to the end of the line too.
There should absolutely be a longer grace period for disconnects. To be blunt, it's bad design that there isn't. Saving people's spot for a few minutes doesn't affect the queue any more than if the person, you know, wasn't disconnected and just kept playing the game.
This isn't a great analogy for a couple of reasons. For one, this isn't a quick transaction like a sale - it's more like waiting in line for to get into a theme park you plan to spend the day at, running into an issue at the ticket booth, and then being kicked out and told to go all the way to the end of the line and try again.Think of it like a big sale at a store. You got inside after waiting in line, realized you left your wallet in your car while gathering the items you wanted, and had to go out to get it, You now have to wait in line to get back in because someone else was let in when they saw you exit. They aren't going to hold the line back for 5-10 minutes to see if you wanted to go back inside.
Also, not that it matters much, but I have actually seen stores wait and let people who ran into a problem skip the line when they come back or resolve it. Sometimes stuff happens. /Shrug
But also forgetting your wallet in that scenario would mean the problem was on you, whereas a person being disconnected... I mean it could be on them, if they like knocked their computer over or something, but more likely it's an issue with the game (or their internet) that kicked them. In which case it's more like waiting in line to get into the store, then running into an issue at the register and getting told to go to the back of the line. Which wouldn't happen but it's that level of absurd is what I'm saying.
Edit to add, now that Im more awake and coherent, that I just got 90k'd in the middle of a cutscene and immediately dumped into a 2k+ queue after waiting literally 3 hours to get into the game earlier and yeah it uhhhh sucks! A lot!

I just got to play for 15 minutes, disconnected, then got sent back to a 4.5k+ long queue. There go my plans for the afternoon.

Was going to play with my static for the first time in 6+ months last night, dc'd from teleporting to an aetheryte into the wonderful 7k chaos que. This has happened 5 or 6 times now since last friday. I have a 1000/500 line, directly connected, no connection issues on any service or game, nothing on networking/router statistics to indicate errors and the square zealots still tell me its "on my end" and "i havent dcd". If the raids come out while the game is in this state I'm just not going to play and let them get someone else, since square is so hilariously incompetent. The responses you get from tech support are stuff like "are you connected through wifi? can you restart your router?" when you clearly lay it out to them whats going on.
good luck lol
Can this post be stickied or something?
I was going to make one myself.
Just coming from 3 hours queue, logged 2 min and getting 90002ed into the oblivion.
HOLY F*****G S***!!
What is really happening is that the game kicks you out at the login menu, you enter right away and the game LITERALLY tells you that you can't enter because YOU ARE ALREADY logged (?!? prob because your character did dont disconnect correctly); after a few seconds it logs your character off and THEN it puts you at the END of the queue. >_>
If only when this happen:
-you try to login but you are ALREADY LOGGED and NOT PROPERLY LOGGED OF
the game could recognize what happened and put you on number ONE in the queue it would be at least SOMETHING.
