This is a you problem. This is an addiction and I think you need to step away from the game for a few months to sort your priorities out.

Allow it to happen? What are they going to do about it? They can't just "let you in".

    Sounds like it is.

Or maybe; and bare with me now; the pandemic that's been going on for the last two years has causes a supply shortage. It's not just gaming hardware. Steel is in short supply. There are hundreds of container ships stuck in the ocean that can't dock to unload any product. This isn't a "Ugh, we'd rather give our money to our shareholders!" thing. It's a "We have no parts!" thing.

Right now its mostly quiet grumbles, but all it would take is one story to hit the gaming community of the que times resulting in the ruining of someone's health in some way for that to blow up.
And then you go threatening them.. Because you want to play your favourite video game..

You need to get your priorities straight. There's nothing Square can do about it other than mandate the amount of time you can play within 24 hours. Ie. You account is only able to log in for 4 hours within the next 24 hours. That would cut down on the queue's and allow for more people to log in, and it would also force people to log off after only 4 hours which would force them to live their life.

But that would open up a BIG can of legal worms for them. And they definitely don't want to deal with that mess.

Ps. If your "friend" can't step away from their computer, that's not Square's problem. You could have the exact same addiction to candy crush. This isn't a Square problem. This is a "you need to grow up" problem.

When I have long queues, I read a book while I wait for 2002.

I suggest OP and their friends to move to China, its leader is very conscious about the effect of online gaming to your well being and will REGULATE your playtime in the best of your interest, since it seems you are not be able to do that yourself.

There is a term for what you describe, and no it's not mental illness or psychology problem. It's called NEET - a behavior problem. Stop trying to cast yourself as the victim in order to escape personal responsibility.

Think some people miss the point, pay a bit of empathy if you can, or spare it.. whatever.

Don't have a problem with the queue times. But I definitely understand disappointment, some people have it rough. Seen it myself. Wherever you go just problems, people want to relax and not be in constant agony. Is SE to blame for it? Of course not. But I believe most of us take enjoyment out of this game and nobody takes pride in putting their life at the expense of playing games constantly. It's really when you are out of resources to cope with or lack interpersonal relationships.

Be patient. Queue times suck as far as I am concerned, but things will get better. Always will.

I think in the short term, yes, a little.
I detailed in another thread that after babysitting though a two and a half hour queue, disconnected three times, I was a little crabby. Add to that my first run-in with the "In From the Cold" duty that everyone is complaining about, yes.
At that instant in time after failing it the first two times, I though that this is NOT what I sat for two and a half hours to do.

There were other mitigating factors - I went into work early, had a long day - obviously NOT SE's problem. But I just had a headache after all of that and logged.

Had the same experience with the queue last night, and instead of going back to "In From the Cold", I did some crafting and gathering leveling, got my second crafting class to 90, made some nice gil leveling botanist.
THEN I went back to "In From the Cold" and aced it the first time.

So.. I'm thinking that "Yes", the queue night after night after night CAN take its toll.. I think that a certain percentage of players will begin to just "screw this" more often when they log in to see 3,850 ahead of them, and just not try that night. That's unfortunate but it will happen. Once more people are finished with MSQ and whatever leveling they do, it may be "see ya at the next patch" and queues may go down for a while.

I just load up BDO when I'm waiting in queue. Being a newish player to that game I have a lot to do in preparation of the new season starting on December 22nd so it hasn't really bothered me that much. FFXIV is my main MMO but I don't feel any time pressure to complete everything in it as soon as possible.

As for damaging relationships and real life problems, that's been a problem for MMO gamers for about 20 years now. It's nothing new.

The long queues are not the issue. If I could queue and go about doing my life, it'd be fine.

The problem is that a) the queue at any time can randomly kick you so you have to be paying attention in order to requeue within the grace period to keep your position

and b) the queue will kick you if you are AFK in queue, meaning you have to keep going back to your PC and move the mouse every now and then to not get disconnected.

So in short, the way FFXIV handles queues is unhealthy since it demands players to stay right in front of their PC for anywhere between 2 to 4 hours just to make sure neither of the 2 errors happen.

And then there's a chance you'll get a dxerror or other error in the game and you'll go back to the end of the queue for another 4 hours.

This ones only a problem if you want to queue up while still at work like people did when WoW Classic dropped, and come home to be in game. But if you're home just walk by the computer and wave your mouse.

But yeah they really should fix the errors, they are very vexing.

Wait.. is it really an AFK type thing that boots you in the queue?
Move the mouse a little and it resets the afk timer??

I've been watching netflix on my computer with the logon screen a little square in the corner, and when I see it go black, I re-log in.
Seriously, some mouse movement avoids the disconnect??

Despite knowing all of this they still opened up selling the game to as many people who wanted to buy it. IF they wanted stable servers they could have limited the sale in waves based on how many the servers can support. Or we have queues. Those are the two main choices right now because every mmo has this problem on release of new expansions.
